Complaint might be a bit strong. Let’s just call it a suggestion.

I frequent reducer everyday. The first thing I do is click on New Posts to see what is trending. It seems that, over the last year or so, the topic you are most likely to see are the want ads. Want to sell, want to buy. Don’t get me wrong. I have no problems with people wanting to make a buck or save a buck. I’m just wondering if there is a way to exclude the marketplace threads from the New Posts. If I want to buy or sell something, I know where to go.

It would just be nice to see the threads that help educate the masses rather than enrich the few.

OK. End of rant. Just my 2 cents.

yeah, +1

exclude the marketplace to facilitate discussion, c'est possible

Actually, I recently benefited from seeing one of the FS ADS that are so prevalent. Before that, I would have agreed with the OP.

I've become very good at scanning the threads and skipping over those ads because they have the required identifiers at the beginning of the thread. If it's not too difficult, maybe the REDuser Webmaster can cause those threads to have a slightly different color or font to make them easier to identify when skimming.

Me too. It is especially annoying when someone has about fifteen different things to sell and they create an individual thread for each one. While I love used gear and seeing what's available and what the going rate is for things, it would be great to have the ability to separate it out like the OP suggested. Otherwise it becomes like those blogs with articles where they insert a line after every paragraph advertising another article.

+1

although I have sold things on reduser and see the benefits, I do find it clutters the discussion experience.

Agreed. I hear from folks in the Industry that RU has basically become an online Classified Ad host. Should be simple coding to keep all WTB, FS etc posts (except for Group Buys) in Marketplace separate form the main wall.

There is some neat stuff here .... http://www.red.com/learn

Nice but way under developed, random in content and getting dated. RED has depended heavily on REDucation instead of online learning. While the best workshop in the biz, I feel this is exclusionary to those who cannot make the trip to a RE location. Education is critical in developing a profitable following of loyal, well informed customers who will do battle for you in the marketplace. There should be a 10 minute Vimeo post a week by a dedicated Director of Online Learning at RED covering a wide range of topics that we currently learn the hard way. It's not like they don't own a studio and a grip department ;-)
