I really want to go as soon as possible
thank you so much

It's the last day of reducation and it is going awesome. 3D section shot some stereo and are about to put it through Mistika. I think everyone in the class gets it now. pretty sweet.

There are a lot of words/phrases that have been used to describe RED Digital Cinema. Game-changing, innovative, disruptive, forward thinking, unapologetic, cocky, fringe-technology etc. etc. There are a lot more and if you've been paying attention you know what they are.

Having taken Reducation twice and participated in Camp RED, I'm struck by the intensity/voracity of the community - from end to end. Reducation has offered me the opportunity to interface with professionals/amateurs alike all standing together, and with the diversity of experience, knowledge, and of course... richly diverse bodies of work it is a pleasantly overwhelming experience. And in this heterogenous mixture, we are all united in a common purpose. The hope for something not only better... but really - the hope for the best. We hope for the best tools, the best quality, the best people to execute and truly deliver the very best in still and motion picture technology; to tell our stories at the highest level possible. That we can hold in our hands a tool that can capture the spirit of the human condition in ways literally never seen before... to push beyond what other's think is possible, regardless of doubt, fear of change, or simply ignorance - it is truly a revolution.

It's not about citing perfection - it's the continual pursuit of it and never quite being satisfied - that there is a better beyond what we thought was the best. Pushing the boundaries in every way possible and ignoring the pundits as they yell, "No! Not possible!".

If you are in doubt or simply do not know... I deeply encourage you to attend Reducation. See for yourself. Hold the camera. Talk and experiment with the community. Assuage any possible fears you may have.

It's not just education about the RED. It is truly motion picture industry 101.

Besides expos and trade shows... how many companies let you peak behind the curtain and experiment with them in a free form manner? How many share with you their dreams and passion and their hope for the future?

What really strikes me as unique, beyond the innovation that are the products, is the willingness to openly share knowledge, rigorously test the equipment, and push one another for the answers.

I would like to thank RED for this opportunity. Yes, you pay for it... but the price is negligible. Or the "juice is definitely worth the squeeze" as it were.

It's been said before but I'll say it again and gladly. Thanks to Jim, Ted, Brian and all of RED. What an amazing product and experience and what a fucking cool group of people! Keep going.

And thanks to Michael and Peter Cioni and the wonderful people of Light Iron. The passion for history, technology, the very best in workflow, intelligent design... you are the RED of post.

Thank you all.

If you are a RED user and have not attended Reducation... get off your ass and go. If you are thinking about buying a RED and are unsure. Get off your ass and go.

So there you go.

..... Some of the students brought some of the footage from projects they've been working on, for review in 4k which they screened for the class as well - a nice bonus, and something I'm thinking of including as a part of our future classes, since its a pretty nice treat to see your work on such a large screen in 4k......

Such a great Idea. Nice to show people what their own work looks like in 4K.

Interesting points of view, and in fact we do cover many styles of production in our classes - each class organically moves the students and their TAs building up the rigs to drive the types of production they plan on doing with the cameras, and how flexible and simple the tools are to use for lots of types of shooting. We build up handheld rigs with light Canon lenses, Studio rigs on big heavy tripods with long PL mount lenses and studio support, and just last week Brian grabbed a Monopod for one of the cameras to use in the class, since I've seen this shooting style being used a lot now for Scarlet and EPIC in the Hybrid shooting mode for getting high rez stills and motion from the same gig.

REDucation X

REDucation X

Hello Red Team,

Can someone please give me an indication of how competitive REDucation X will be?

How many applicants does RED expect?
How many Shorts will the top 21 have made?
Will people with camera skills be favoured over, say, editors or producer types?
How many years experience does RED anticipate the top 21 will have? etc etc

I know these are hard questions to answer, but please, if you could give any indication at all - I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Brendan

Brendan,

REDucation X is a response to a number of current and future filmmakers who have requested more from our week long REDucation course. As this is our first effort we do not have an expected applicant number but have already received some inquiries from some talented people. We hope to create a well rounded group of 21 students with a mix of skills and experience - future camera operators, editors and producers - passion for learning and creating are the keys.

NAB has been a great place to discuss this with the RED community in person and Ted and I will continue to post updates here on our progress.

Brian
