Reducation Q

I guess since people don't pay for information on this forum it is valueless as well.

Knowledge and acquired skills are inherently valuable, regardless of the monetary cost to gain them.

Here's an example... My friend that is only a couple of months older than me wants to be a car mechanic with his own business. All his life, he grew up watching his dad run his own shop and began doing quite a bit of jobs with his dad who was contracted to do this work.

Now, he is at the age where he wants to go to college (for him, a tech school). After all of his "hands on" training with his dad, he now knows more than a teacher of his in some areas.

If he were to want to work for himself, he could build a clientele base with friends and then build even bigger by those friends spreading a good word by word of mouth. This would be fine. But if he were to eventually want to go work for another business and begin to move up the ladder, that investment he made for going to college and getting a degree just might be the difference of getting hired or looked over.

Now, with all that being said, was the information he got from his dad as he grew up "invaluable"? Why of course it was (and so is the info you and I can find on REDuser.net). But might a degree that takes time, money, diligence and a bit of effort make a difference on whether you get hired or not? Maybe so (just like a certificate from RED).

It sounds like you are working both sides of the fence Joe.

Red could define a field tech as a highly specialized position but most electronics repair work involves some manual skills, the ability to read a schematic and follow fairly simple flow charts. We're not talking neural surgery here and the comparison to a medical degree is ludicrous. No offense.

I'm interested too. Sign me up.
