We are finalizing details for REDucation December and have added more science, time with gear, shooting exercises and technology than ever but the most impressive feature is the teaching team.

In addition to our always strong TA team we also have Mark Pederson from OffHollywood and colorist Dado Valentic from MyTherapy joining us, the post course will also have Patrick Palmer from Adobe (Speedgrade product manager) and the lighting course will be taught by Pat Grosswendt

TA team is: Bryan Moore, Justin O'Neill, Ivan Agerton, Matt Short, Luis Flores, Tonaci Tran, Steve Lovett and Casey Green – hoping Curt Pair will be able to make it as well.

REDucation is a three day course, each day includes a shoot and 4K review. The last two days offer four extension courses in Post Production, Lighting, Camera Stabilization and Production.

I took this course last December and can't recommend it enough.

I came from a background of DSLR photography and videography, and had just purchased my BT Scarlet-X. I decided I needed a disciplined environment to learn the camera and general workflow, and the course looked like it had everything I needed to gain a better understanding of the RED.

The three days were great - a blend of classroom-style learning and hands-on practice with the Scarlet and Epic. Ted and Brian walked us through different aspects of RED each day (with some very special guest speakers), then allowed us to form groups and put our newfound knowledge to the test. Then, we had the awesome opportunity of not only seeing our 4K material projected in full 4K force, but receive thoughtful critiques back on how to improve (something you may not get simply by posting your work up on the Internet for the keyboard warriors of the world to go after.)

I also have to give props to all of the instructors that were there - they set aside time from their busy lives to come in and share their knowledge and enthusiasm for RED, something very contagious, but worth catching!

No one knew this at the time, but the three-day course I signed up for ended on my birthday. I'm not one to celebrate getting older, but have to admit that working with and learning from such talented and passionate people from the industry was one of the best ways I've spent my b-day.

Hi Bob,

We ran 2 RED EPICs, the static with a 600mm zoom and the camera car's with a 24-290mm Optimo. Ultimate Arm is always my first choice for a camera car, and this being Sonoma Raceway, collaborating with them made our ability to grab dynamic running footage all the better. No motion stabilization was added in post and the whole thing was cut and colored right here at Audi of America HQ in Herndon, VA.

DP Patrick Lawler, along with the Audi dynamic content production duo of Director Joseph Olesh and Producer Lindsay Whitman, rocked it at REDucation. We've been following the posts across social pages and RU feeds. Congratulations Patrick and Audi! Great show. Attendees loved it.

Sorry - took a while to catch up on things with the Holidays and all... but I'd like to finally summarize just how great REDucation December 2013 was.

Brian Henderson, Katie Dixon, Matthew Goodwin, Erin Anderson, and the REDucation team are doing an outstanding job further building upon the foundation that Ted, Michael, and others designed years ago. If you have not yet attended one of these 3-5 day seminars, please consider it. Whether you are new to RED, or own several cameras and are pretty knowledgeable already, there is something for everyone.

When possible, REDucation has been held at RED Studios Hollywood, which is a great venue for it. However, this time around, RSH was completely booked with a David Fincher project, so RED outsourced Thunder Studios (in Long Beach, CA). Having taught at many REDucations in years past, I found it refreshing.

I've attached a bunch of pictures to give you an idea of just how fun and educational this class is, but what's hard to show is the additional value of making great friends and connections in the industry. Many people that come to REDucation go on to work on projects together and help further build their careers and this fantastic community. Definitely check it out!
