REDucation 2012 Dates and Info

Just want to give a huge shout out to all the instructors and RED Team members that worked so hard to make the February REDucation event a huge success! Thank you for all your efforts...very much appreciated...had the time of my life, made a ton of new friends and learned so much!

Casey, thanks again for all your hard work at REDucation, great job!
I really enjoyed working with you on "opera" ....

Thanks so much to everyone for all of the kind words. It was another great week. I had so much fun not only teaching all things RED, but learning from all of you as well. This is a very special program, and it is an honor to be a part of it.

Also, thanks to the group that shot "Opera"... it was an absolute pleasure working with you and I can't wait to see our finished project. We really pulled off a nice short in just a few hours!

Casey Green is my hero. If (when) I end up being a crazy old cat lady I plan on naming 3 tabbies after him. ;)

I had the best time being a part of this class. I'm so proud of what everyone accomplished and I can't wait to see all of the shorts from Shoot/Post/Present!

Big Thank You to Ted, Michael Cioni, Brian and the entire reducation team for a fabulous week of learning. Thank you Tonaci for patiently leading our group through the exercises.
I look forward to staying connected with all the fellow redusers who were a part of reducation 2012. It's an investment with truly lasting values much like Red itself. Highly
recommended to anyone who is considering it.

Casey - when you say "can't wait to see our finished project" - does that mean that someone is going to FINISH the edit? Christine in all her spare time??? :)

I also wanted to thank Christine and Siobhan for their help - those girls ROCK. I think we all felt really fortunate to have them with us on this project!

Where is the NYC Reduction (or at least nearby hotel locations)?
Also are there still slots available?
Also- should I bring my camera, or would there be an issue with that?

Looks like an amazing set of classes for a very low price.

JD - we are still finalizing a spot in NYC, we will have it by mid next week. There are still slots available and you do not need to bring your own camera but you are certainly welcome to!

Brian,

Is the New York course going to be using the same set up (i.e. HP workstations + Rocket)? Is it possible to also have a workflow for the "very little guy" without a Rocket? This would give us a chance to see what Premier's Mercury Playback Engine can do with a NVIDIA Quadro-type graphics card... perhaps being able to mess around with debayer quality and playback resolution to see what a viable non-Rocket workflow is (I know it's not ideal, but may be needed in certain situations where one doesn't have access to a Rocket). Any chance of something like this in addition to the regular HP w/ Rocket set up?

Really excited! Traveling for 16 hours all the way from Pakistan to attend the NYC class! See you all there!

Ok- thanks for the info. I'll see if the boss will let me book now before the location is announced. I don't think I can pass up a chance to take the camera with me to NY!

Hey Umar, are you posting with Red One footage now? I've been posting since 07 without the rocket, just FC RAID on an 07 mac pro with a decent video card. You can't do serious animation or rendering, but you can edit and render lower resolution pretty fast. Even posted on a newer iMac. My guess is that if you plan your workflow you can do it with Epic. In fact I'm betting on it.

Thanks, Doc - great to see you again! The shoot, post, present class was a great experience and next time we will have an even stronger iteration -

Awww shucks...

But seriously, thank you for the sentiment. We were all very fortunate to have such an experienced and passionate group. REDucation is a work in progress and it has come a long way since class #001 held at L.A. Center Studios way back when.

All the staff and teachers have a lot to be proud of, but we also thank the students for everything they bring to the class. I always learn so much from all of you!

Looking forward to the next one... and meeting your tabbies.

Jason,

Yes, I am going to work on it in the coming days/weeks. Christine was a huge help, but she is too busy right now to stay involved. With a few tweaks, color grading, and sound sweetening, it should be in good shape. I'll let you know when it is ready.

What's the scoop? I'm signed up but have not seen any info on location.

Thanks,
J.D.

J.D,

We are still working on the details, have a couple of locations to choose from and are scouting them now. I will post as soon as it is final.
