  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RedTrip

Well it's a tease is the post production peeps of the world can't get their hands on it get a list from FCP to RedCine!! That's definitely a tease.

one track, transitions, text, only .r3d files with original names, one exception, this is a _h mov genrated by a 2k .r3d
step 1 failed to create redcine.xml

and the cant make window....message at the end, ok or edit...

I wonder if someone could help me a little bit please. Ive no idea how to install and run Python on my powerbook. Its running 10.4, and although Ive downloaded a few pages and explanations I cant seem to make any headway at all. As an editor, shooter, and director by training I consider myself pretty versatile, but Im sitting here trying to figure the simplist thing out, the install of python so that I can run Redtrip, and am looking into the dark with no clue. As in, I dont have a clue how to start. Ive read a few of the website pages recommended in the 'readme' sections of python, and nope, still standing in the dark. Anyone please feel like helping suddenly hobbled me to the light so that I can see what y'all are tripping on?

This should just have an installer inside. Double click on it and follow the instructions.

You might want to just wait. For RedTrip is mostly for the very computer savvy. It may hold lots more frustrations.

Thanks for your response Ian. What, wait and miss out on a good trip from glowstick man?
Actually, I'm pretty pugnacious, and so I'll give the learning curve a go. Thanks in advance.

You would have to manually move them into a Compressor droplet, then compress to source. That is the only way right now. It's easier if you use the details view in finder and open each folder with the triangle expander thinger.

Aight. That's basically what I'm doing right now. Just making sure I wasn't missing one of the output settings that would do what I suggested. Thanks.

Sound handling in RedTrip

Sound handling in RedTrip

Ian,

We are currently posting with the proxies for both sound and video. We recorded sound into the camera.... REDCINE, however, does not keep the sound with the video. How do you recommend we keep the sound from the proxies when going back to FCP with the high quality rendered files?

BTW, the reason I haven't sent you anything yet is that my new Mac requires QT 7.4 and I can't get consistently good renders out of REDCINE. So until the next release, this is mostly theoretical for me.

I'm expecting you won't be doing any rendering in Redcine until after you have cut. In the workflow I am imagining, everyone is always creating proxies, using compressor, or cutting camera original redcode proxies. Or seperating out audio with compressor and relinking aiffs in FCP prior to cutting.

RedTrip doesn't currently mess with your audio tracks. So if you have audio linked up in your original proxy sequence, the same audio will be in your roundtrip sequence. In other words your picture sequence will be newly rendered quicktimes, but your audio sequence will still be referencing your original proxies, or in my case I've been doing seperate sound, so my audio track is still referencing the original aiffs from a hard disc recorder.

I'd like to look into other ways of doing this. Just haven't got to that yet. But if you can describe the workflow you would like to use that would be very helpful.

hi ian i think you should mention this in the informations of using redtrip.
it has nothing to do with redtrip in general, but to know that mixing 2k 3k and 4k doesnt work in redcine, will save a lot of people some time, trieing to figure out how this works.

Having issues with multiple file outputs. I've got multiple clips lined up and REDCine ctd's everytime it gets to a specific clip. My first two clips are 3k, and the third is 4k...crash occurs at the first frame of the 4k clip. If I move the 4k clip further back into the sequence, say after 4 or 5 3k clips, all 3k clips render fine, and the 4k again crashes.

This occurs regardless of codec, project size, and scaling settings.

Any ideas?

QT 7.3.1 of course
MacPro 8-core 3.0ghz
4gb ram
nvidia quadro fx4500

This is a known issue and I've been suggesting as a work around not mixing different resolution footage in a timeline, this usually fixes it when i run into this issue. I also have had this happen when I mix overcranked footage into the timeline so I would suggest just keeping like media in your Redcine timeline.

Are you saying 2k 4k AND 3k? We haven't updated to Build 14 so I don't have any 3k footage yet, but these past few days I've been successfully exporting out of Redcine with 2k and 4k in my timeline as well as variable frame rates throughout. All with no problem or glitch. Of course, it took awhile to get my render settings figured out so that it would kick out SD practically real time for my offline edit. Also, I've successfully been able to load that XML into Redcine again (based on the offline clips I exported from Redcine earlier) for high res outputs. The only bummer right now is that I have to manually line up my final renders back in FCP because on my finals I go DPX > color then to Uncompressed 10 bit (at least for the time being). I've mentioned earlier in this thread that it would be an excellent feature if somehow that sort of workflow was supported. But, all in due time I suppose.

Tried native redcode editing in fcp with only 4k 2:1 footage, no sound, export xml, import in redcine, render qt prores, import new xml in fcp, conform and send to color. Wow just as smooth as one can expect!
I will try to edit with the prores and then go to redcine, but I have no unlimited access to OSX station...
What I want also try is to render dpx out of redcine (and not mov) and do a conform on a grading suite (or any software that do 4K and import edl/xml) with an edl or xml from fcp, so you would have a workflow for film out.

Ian thanks a lot for your time and dedication, your software is GREAT.
Will give you "complicated" xml project as soon as I have one.

Again thanks!!!!

ciao,
antoine.
