  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RedRocket Avid MXF outputs

We're in a day to day mode to fix and audio issue to hand over a new version of the SDK that includes the 24.000 support. It's all working in the PC version of the SDK, just fixing the Mac issues -

Michael

oh boy do i love being a pioneer. i hope its there by wednesday! when you don't know you sure do add a lot of extra excitement to your life by counting on things. like shooting 4.5k on a feature and praying support will be there by the time you get to conform.... WEEEEEeeeee.....

As soon as you click for the transcode function to begin, you are prompted to name the ALE. Where are you putting that file?

Michae

Hey Michael,

I'm putting it in the same file as the transcodes, so everything is in the same place?

Mike Costelloe

HD is REC709, so targeting that would be the way to go.

Michael

I think there is a difference between the target colorspace wich is for exemple REC709 for HD delivery and the way you debayer the RAW file.

You could use PDlog if you want but the results don't get you close to a satisfying result, as your tools are mainly linear or with 2.2 gamma and your aim to an REC709 format.

I don't know with RR but in Color I get "best results" or results that look close to what I try to acchieve in REC709 with

Colorspace : Camera RGB
Gamma: REDspace

My 2 cents...

Pat

Hey Michael,

Mike Costelloe

If you target the same folder as the MXF/AAF the folder will have three items in it when done:

1. One ALE file
2, One folder named MXF with all the MXF files inside
3. One folder named AAF with all the AAF files inside

Is this not what you are seeing?

Michael

Micjael,

I get inside my designated folder.

1 AAF Folder with AAF inside
2 MXF Folder with 3 x MXF's inside
3 A single File with .RD extension this has same info and structure as an ALE, I've checked this with an Avid friend

I will try again later this weekend and see if I can find option of generating ALE.

Mike Costelloe

The creation of an ALE is automatic when I transcode, no setting for it. Are you being prompted for an ALE file name? Just for a test, make sure there are no spaces in any of your target folders or path leading up to it.

Michael

Michael,

Had a look this morning.

The programme does prompt for a location for the ALE which is a .RD extension and by default wants to sit it in the .RDM file containing all the clips.

Mike Costelloe

Just to make sure - you are using ROCKETCINE-X and not REDCINE-X correct?

Michael

YEP!

when you get the new window, after hitting the export function, there you could delete all characters in and write the name for the ALE. the stored file will have then an .ALE extension. then you can navigate to the folder you want and store there the ALE file. the export will then start and generates on the location you defined in the export settings the AAF and MXF folder.....

Fritz,

Sure. I could rename it anything with any description and extension. I'm just trying to find out how and why it does what it does. I presuppose there is a reason for it or in my ignorance I need to find out if and why.

That would be a question for RED. At least you can generate the ALE by typing in name+extension.

For the case of the user pressing “Export”
We take the filename you chose for the exported files and append “.ale” and save/append to that file.

For the case of “Export Selected”:
We tell the OS to prompt for the .ALE file.
A file dialog pops up which says save ALE.
Select a file name...
If you select a filename with an extension it uses the provided extension
If you don’t provide an extension the dialog box appends .ale to it.
If the file you choose to save to is “BLAH.RD” they get the file “BLAH.RD”.
If you choose “BLAH.ale” it will save to “BLAH.ale”
If you choose to save to “BLAH” it will save to “BLAH.ALE”

We'll add the logic to make it always append .ale if there isn't one.

Is 24.00 support coming in redcine/ rocketcine update coming on wednesday?

Export - Avid export restructuring

is shown in the list... so would be great if it is working... need it here also... but deanan and avid are on it, so it could take not that much time....

soon, soon... we (Avid) tracked down a bug in the writing of the audio files and fixed it. We are targeting getting updated libraries to RED on Tuesday (90% chance as of right now) I know RED can turn around stuff quickly, but I cannot speak to their timetable. I know that we (Avid and RED) are anxious to get this out to everyone.

It includes 24.000, audio fix and space in target path of transcode folder.

Michael

thats great to hear Michael, well done in this short time... great to have you here.... :)
