  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redrock microRemote?

That was fast.

Actually the last mail I received was somewhere in November '11 and before that August '10.
and countless messages on your community, before it was closed.

I'm still interested, and I surely will drop you a mail :)

Boy we sent a lot of emails since then, so yes drop me a PM.

Don't know what the quality of this product is... the only bad reviews I've heard is that other manufacturers wireless follow focus were working at NAB 2012 and the REDrock had to be tethered. Here's a video in which it was demoed as tethered. Would love to test it out for myself and see what the wireless is like compared to say a Bartech.

@andrae we were showing it in wireless mode both days at Cinegear. Performed great. I think there are some reduser members who had a chance to check it out there as well.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your timely post. Are the specs for the transmitter available? Also can the transmitter select Sub-channels? If so what frequency range?

Hey Brian...will those of us that ordered get an update soon? coming up on a month since "June 1st" and still no update on my order..have contacted orders and sales and no real answer??? thanks

Have the first units shipped? Even a ballpark timeline or understanding of where we are in the queue would be helpful.

@Andrea 2.4ghz radio, 16 sub-channel select. I don't have the specs of those freq ranges but yes, you are thinking the right way about this

@Tim yes we are shipping, slowly, but shipping.

@Ryan we should have an update soon. The last few deliveries have gone really well so I think next week we'll be speeding up deliveries. You are local to our LA location right?

We tested and confirmed interoperability with Preston motors (and also Torque motors with Preston fiz unit). Also we added a couple new features: auto torque, which intelligently sets the torque for each lens so that they perform smoothly and consistently, and a fine tune manual override so you can choose the feel and responsiveness of the unit.

Thanks Brian

Yeah I'm in San Diego so pretty close...
just under 3 weeks till production starts on my new short...was really hoping to have this by then as we have some complicated crane / moco shots..and as discussed with Loren will be able to do lots of BTS/review type stuff.
Of course then Rachel will be sad that I don't bug her on a weekly basis once I get it :)

Ryan PM me, thanks

Brian

If I were you guys I would wait and see what Optitek has coming out very shortly. Just sayin... (And can't say more just yet.)

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions Brian. Is the microRemote Basestation compatible with the M-One Digital motor?

@Andrae - We haven't looked at the M-One digital motor yet, not a lot of requests for that so far. Drop me a PM and we can discuss if you're interested.

We have tested and verified compatibility with Heden digital motors and Preston digital motors.

@Andrae update - sounds like you know Greg who has a microRemote in your area - he confirmed the m-One digital motor works with the microRemote. Sounds like he may be arranging to bring the gear to a meetup you are organizing? If so you can check out the whole setup there.

Cheers

Brian

UPDATE: Apparently YOU were the guy who tested the motor with Greg! Let us know how it went! -B

Hi Guys,

I know it's been a long time coming, but the big deal this year was that we were showing our own digital motors. Previously we were compatible with a wide range of motors, but they would all nearly double the price of the system. The prices you saw above ($1,400 for the thumbwheel version and $2,400 for wireless) is for a complete digital system which means that it includes our own digital motor.

So Shawn, I wouldn't see it as "coming close to the price of a used bartech" because the fact is the microRemote will be on par with a wide range of digital systems in all aspects. We don't want people to have to "settle" for a less expensive system, the microRemote will be able to play with the big boys just as much as any other system, but at a more end user price range.

Cheers,

Loren Simons

No offense, but I'll believe it when I see it. Realize there have been issues, but hyping everything from wireless follow focus', to EVF's, to the micro force remote for multiple years without delivery doesn't instill much confidence. If you can ship any of these things great...it's just hard to take seriously after many of us have moved on.

Paul - the microRemote (I assume that's what you mean by 'micro force remote' and 'wireless follow focus'?) is already out there being used today by customers. Sounds like Andrae has already had some time with it, he might add his two cents to this thread.

Recapping the 'issues'? We switched from an analog system to a digital one, we added a sonar rangefinder, we added a second type of hand controller, and we developed our own digital motor, keeping the price all-in for around $2500. I'd say that's a lot of development.

Cheers

Fair enough. So the average customer can go to your site and order these items?

I did order the items a few weeks ago, and was told that it was a 'mistake' and the order web page shouldn't have been made available. My order is still in but no idea if or when it will be delivered.

Not yet - we're still in the reservation list fulfillment.

@Mike yes we have your order, it will just follow the reservation deliveries.

Cheers
