  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redrock microMatteBox shipping news

Just to be clear - we sent an email that was a repeat of what we previously posted here - I know it's unthinkable but there are folks who don't frequent the forums as much as us, so it's for their benefit. There is an update coming out today - THAT is the one that hasn't yet gone out

Brian was everyone e-mailed? Can you please see if my name is on the list. I haven't received any e-mails.

Sorry, I did receive one on July 11, 2007 with a subject being 'microMatteBox update from Redrock Micro'. Thanks.

Yep you're good

As much as I love discussing sources for inexpensive rods like any other red-blooded filmmaker, may I suggest another thread be started on this? Just want to keep from folks having to dig for the relevant microMatteBox info

Thanks

Brian

No problem, Brian. Other stuff on low-cost rod alternatives now here.

Carry on.

Sorry, Brian. My bad. ...but since it was announced at the same time and I put in a reservation at the same time, is there any word on the remote follow focus? Thanks.

repeat after me: "I will only talk about the microMatteBox on this thread" :turned:

And thanks Jeff!

Redrock microMatteBox Update No 1

Redrock microMatteBox Update No 1

Hello Everyone

This is an update on the microMatteBox. This is the first of what we expect are regular updates on the status of the microMatteBox. Please take the time to read this completely, as it answers many questions we are often asked.

New Feature - Native 19mm rod support

We will be offering a native 19mm support arm as an option for microMatteBox. Red folks sure know how to rally around something they want. Timing is still being worked out but we hope to have it available in time for the first release. The 19mm option will cost a bit more, how much more we don't yet know, but you know Redrock philosophy so it will be reasonably priced when compared with our target price of the base configuration (around $500 US).

Release Date

This new feature will push the release date back a bit... how far we don't yet know, but shouldn't be too much. Our target is still to deliver the first 50 units sometime in December, and most or all of the remaining reservations and general product availability in the January/February timeframe. We again want to reiterate that this is a best case timeline and is subject to delay. Please do not confirm a reservation with us if you absolutely require one by a specific date.

Reservations

We will be contacting the first 50 reservation holders to confirm their reservation. This email will have this ticket in it:

golden_ticket.jpg

Since we haven't announced final pricing (just waiting for a few more things to come in) we won't yet be requiring a deposit, so just a response is needed . When we have the pricing publicly available we’ll collect deposits at that time. If a reservation holder declines, or does not respond within four days from our email notification, we will move to the next reservation holder and offer the slot to them… and so on until all 50 slots are filled. Also, there is only one microMatteBox per reservation at this time.

We will only be taking deposits for the first 50 slots. The remaining reservation holders will have priority in ordering a microMatteBox before they become generally available. If you did not receive an email asking to confirm your reservation and showing the ticket, you are not in the first 50 reservations. Please allow the next 12-24 hours for this email to arrive.

So from what I understand, you are making a swing away bracket for 19mm native. Isn't there a way to make a screw on bracket for the 15mm (100mm spacing) & 19mm option right on the bottom of the 15mm (60mm spacing) swing away bracket just like Arri does or are you not allowed to do it that way because Arri may have a patent? I feel this is the most universal way. Allows you to mount to any conifguration not just RED. Like Arri FF-4 follow focus also has the 15mm holes right in the main unit and then 15 & 19mm brackets can be screwed on from underneath. Such a great system. Does anyone feel the same way?

s816mm35mm - if you look back through this thread the main request we are getting is for native 19mm rods without the adapter. We are already offering a 15mm version and Red has a 15mm-19mm adapter

Cheers

Brian

FANTASTIC!!! Thanks for the native 19mm Brian. I'm going to give you a huge RED high five at NAB this year.

Brian thanks a lot for this good news i will pray to be:clown2: in the first lucky owners

same here - I got the general news release email saw the blue ticket and thought I was one!!! doh - still hoping to be :whistling:

2 Questions:

To achieve the lightest configuration on a RED would we be best to use the 19mm swing away version or the 15mm version with shorter smaller rods on RED???

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but if you wanted to use the MB on other smaller cameras besides RED, then the 15mm would be a better choice, as you can always use the 15-19 adapter if needed??

Keen to check my logic.

thanks and can't wait to see the MB Brian

cheers

Brian,
What some of us have in mind is an adapter like the one pictured in David's post here:

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=101367&postcount=60

This would allow both lightweight 15mm and 19mm options without the complications of having to use short 15mm rods going through an adapter.

Yeah, the Arri type dual system would be ideal in my opinion, as well. I don't know if the design is already locked, but since people are putting in their votes...
