Their website for the product says:

"1.4m total dots" the word dots, not pixels, being important.

Which I believe in display terms is generally meant to mean 1.4 million red, green, and blue dots in all. Or...

1,400,000 (dots) / 3 (each color) = 466,666 pixels = 0.4666 Megapixels = ~910x512 at 16:9

RED Bomb EVF = 720p according to the store.

I may certainly be wrong and, frankly, for $600, I'd love to be.

Indeed. 1/2 the spatial resolution for 1/6 the cost doesn't sound so bad.

It'll be interesting to see how it all works out. I'm particularly interested to learn more about their own brand of focus assist and how the "consumer battery" ends up working for them in comparison to say, a LEMO.

Of course, if you are monitoring 3K or especially 5K, I'd want to see as many of those pixels as possible...

Frame rates and frame-rate options would also be another interesting bit to know about.

Wow- those are some bold claims. He does specifically say the Bomb EVF ...

I'm interested to hear what peoples thoughts are on the EVF once it gets in peoples hands and see how good it really in compared to to the bomb EVF. Right now the biggest draw back I see to the RR EVF is that it is HDMI, but as you cannot have the Bomb EVF and the touch screen LCD powered on via the brain on the Epic, that in itself is a bit of a draw back to the bomb EVF. (The HDMI out on the Epic could be used for the RR EVF ...)

But this is all speculation on my part as I have neither in my hands at this point ...

ha ha interesting marketing. I think Brian is a little confused.

The Bomb EVF is actually a bit higher than 720p ( real pixels, not dots ) if you include the active lookaround.

no harm though.. I am sure Brian isn't purposefully sending out false information.. he may just be reading the specs that the foreign supplier is giving him and not understanding them correctly. They keep changing that dot number as well.. their initial press release claimed 1.2 now its 1.4..

Canon however is very upfront and open of the fact that their 920,000 "dot" screen, actually is only VGA resolution .. ( 300,000 pixels )
they even put that on their spec sheet.

I am sure Brian will read this thread and repent :)

confusion

confusion

That's what "spin" marketing does to people -makes them sound incompetent...
If we used the same calculation for Bomb EVF it would have 3+ Mpix
1280x800x3. Hilarious really....
