  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDray Projector..

The date was end of 2012 at NAB and as as this is top of recon
I think we can safet deduce that they dont want to give any more
Heads up to the industry they will be disrupting - :)

any news on news from Red with the projector?
Or is it mum's the word till its ready for the public?

Well, only RED knows for sure but the 4K battle royale seems to have been postponed given the lack of economic motivation and no h.265 codec to drive a 4K disc-based format. Given RED's past actions, they will probably not show their pimp-hand until at least Sony/Panasonic make their 4K LED hook-up efforts public and that probably won't be until 2014.

Jim,

Projector news or teasers?

Will buy one as it launches under 10K is a very Good pricing for the kind of the projector RED will be launching. Way to go Red Digital Cinema!

Gathering all the info, we'll see the actual projector early 2014.

Red, prove me wrong please! or at least give us some hope.

I sure hope not!!!

I don't know if in someone already told about it, but how exactly format I need to export to preoject on redray, when I have one? Just R3D? or have ProRES options? Thanks!

Projector starts rolling out end of the year to some select installations... we have a period of Field FCC testing that takes place before they can be shipped to random people. They should be in the store for normal purchase sometime in the first few months of 2013.

REDRAY as mentioned will be ahead of the projector...

There is a greatness to your lateness

Isn't it supposed to out by the end if the year, is there any information?

Lens Test projector as well ?

Lens Test projector as well ?

Seing it has a cine lens in front, I assume the projector has a PL mount...so the question arise : would this serve a PL lens test projector ?. It might need a reticle (to project a chart) but this might open a whole new market for this projector, service and lens checking. Pretty much a plus for camera owners. Is this possible ?

Regards

6 months AT LEAST?! Really?!?!

Hook, line and sinker. I doubt Petri was trawling. But Petri, what did you mean?

I can understand Franks reaction, Red can't afford to keep delaying things after the pocket, whatever, fixed scarlet thing that took 4-5 years of waiting (I was back channelling with Jim about pocket camera in the absolute beginning. Whoever advises him, would not last long like that in my business). So, I have waited 5 years for the scarlet, longer for 4k, as one of the original pre-red diy camera folks. Also many years for the new codec, that seems to get close enough to my previous ideas. Red seems to take a number times longer than outside estimates on these projects (but what do you expect when creating top level technology from scratch, and some of it involving some people starting out). The micro-management of organisational structure and staff recruitment needed to steam up and streamline things is astronomical, so that you can stop worrying about what everybody else knows to do, and concentrate on other things. If Jim had sold 10-20% to Apple in exchange for (apart from cash) help structuring, design, recruitment and cross licensing, it would be another thing.

I hope it comes as indicated, this year, cheaper than $10k, and less so in 6 months. The biggest issue, is there is no 8k with custom interface board for displayport and hdmi 8k upgrade.
