REDRAY Comments

No movie maker is a chicken! That's offensive. They are reckless gamblers who if smart will always use another's money not that most of them will have any money to begin with. Rate this post Elsie.

Then I guess the eggs came first and we are eggs. '-)

And I rate your post a D-. Not for content, but for spelling and relevance.

Come on. Being sweet and charitable rating wise doesn't suit you. Tell us how you really feel about my post. :)

What the heck... on the new rating system I give you a 2.8. (That's a gentleman's D '-)

The initial tweets were private DMs.

Then I'm a Twitter retarded. Never heard about DMs before you mentioned it. And I don't see anything in my Twitter interface letting me know it should be private. Nothing that makes it different than any other tweet. WTF?
I shared the info because I'm quite excited by what's coming from Red and Odemax.
I will delete the link in my previous post then...

Any news is better than nothing. You did nothing wrong and we know Odemax is in the teething stage and if it puts a trial page then so what? Its only what they put up whenever they really launch that counts much. I really could care less whatever they do. I will never do business as a consumer with them based on their past conduct.

What did they ever do to you Mark? Mug you in an alley?

It's a hard thing to do...bring up a cloud service with a unique interface and Quality of service feeds to boot. Damn hard.

Odemax is getting close... but they are not RED so it's not our place to talk about their internal progress until they are ready.

I am not completely sure why people are getting upset ( I think i missed the punchline?) .

It seems to only be a couple of people who are upset, and one in particular. The rest of us are waiting patiently. We understand that these things take time.

Patient? Hell, I am downright excited / jazzed / stoked!

BTW - Jarred, I think we all missed the punchline. No clue as to what Odemax did to permanently damage our indignant friend.

????

...And what past conduct? They were to make their appearance at Sundance and had the flu. Just like everyone else. I wasn't there, thankfully, but I hear that a great many vendors and promoters bailed out and people wouldn't shake hands or stand closer than 6 feet of each other to speak.

ODEMAX was at NAB, in the RED booth. They put on a very informative demo and walked us through the back-end of the software, creating and managing channels, content, etc.. Mostly for Crimson, and the commercial pipeline, the end user pipeline was still in the works. All very well thought out and I think nearly all of my questions were answered with "already in the works" or "we are really considering that".

The closest thing on the market to REDRAY is the ROKU system, but REDRAY takes quality to 11. ODEMAX is the first service to jump onboard and will be the one they launch with. Other services can be hosted, Netlix, Amazon, Vudu, etc.. could all become REDRAY platform participants. Not saying that they will, but it's entirely possible.

I'm also thinking we may get an additional service or two besides ODEMAX at launch, or possibly very shortly after. WB is starting up their streaming service and is said to be still working deals on playback and hardware. With all of their re-mastering of movie titles at 4K and release of "mastered in 4K" Blu-Rays, it really gets me wondering...

Odemax is getting close...

Can't wait!

However for some reason I haven't been able to Sign Up successfully, the browser simply shows no progress on the upload, and after a while simply cancels itself out, tried several times with different clips, then give up... :(

Hopefully is not because of me not been in the USA.

Any ways, I emailed them so lets see.

Proprietary means of watching content is the not future for consumers...theaters..yes...home viewers...I really dont think so and honestly hope not.

Netflix's model is much smarter and broader as a channel or app gateway on all formats and devices for the widest possible viewership. This is the future I see, not Odemax and Redray....its way too narrow for where content distribution is headed. If 4k streaming is the future so be it, but I want to get my content on any device I happen to have in front of me and I suspect so do most people. Resolution will never take the place of wanting what you want when you want it which is as I see it the future of media consumption no matter what the resolution.

Paul I agree that there is the mass market that wants content to play on their... what ever, from phone to ipad etc. regardless the quality because it doesn't look too bad on the small screens. There are also some who watch this kind of content on their 46" + screens even though it looks like ass to discerning movie watchers but they really don't care. These are not the clients that Redray and Odemax are catering to. Red and Odemax believe that there is a large enough market to be successful distributing and displaying high end content. I agree with them. Netflix type offerings can push the limits to the point where they can have barely watchable content on big screens all they want and reap the profits from the masses of people who want cheap mediocre content. The other critical point is security. The only way you will get content from major providers in cinema quality 4K in your home is if it has bullet proof security. That is not there with a Netflix etc. type of service. There are millions of people who take watching movies seriously enough to invest in the best option to bring it into their homes. Blu Ray as it is is obsolete and fading fast, Netflix type of services is a step backwards for higher end users even in 4K. So I agree that the vast majority of users will be low end download systems which will get better and blur the line slightly in the near future but that's not the only market and I am sure that Red and Odemax understand that and are not aiming their sights in that direction.
