  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDRAY Comments

I'm sorry if this has been answered, but can any files be encoded to 4k .RED for REDray distribution or only .r3d source files?

And what about rendering out of applications like resolve/scratch/etc and going directly to .RED?
 
Ok, so, a movie is shot in R3D format, edited, color corrected and graded natively in R3D. What you're left with is a timeline that consists of many finished R3D clips. How is the complete movie then encoded into one big .R3D file to be shown as a RedRay movie?

you can encode from from any camera or scan or existing 4k output as the encoder can also ingest Tiff or DPX sequences.. it does not need to be a .r3d, and it does not need to be shot on RED cameras.

yes the $20 is the plugin price if you dont own the player.. its the software fee, and you just pay it once, you dont pay it for every conversion.

All this anouncement is really great, congratulations, but what about the most important, the projector or the display ? If I clearly understood, the Red projector will include a 4K player. So what would be the price of this projector ? I don't see any advantage to buy the standalone right now, as you can't watch a 4K picture right now. And when you'll have the opportunity of getting the Red projector, what to do with the standalone player ?

Could I playback the .red file on the pc to confirm it the conversion went fine? Or do I need the rr for this?
 
About automation systems, is the IP commands list available already ?

Yup same here for the last 2 years! I honestly can't believe what we saw was only 1.5MB/s. Totally BLOWS my mind and Loom was only in 2K when I saw it, but still it was GORGEOUS.

redcode = REDRAY... since nobody has brought this up... How did you guys get the .RED name? wasnt that some existing file type hence R3D (the 3 being an E backwards) if my trivia mind serves me well :)
