  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDRAY 4K versions of Tattoo, Loom, and the new Dragon Reel

As i interpret the information that is available at the moment.. there is a torrent client available in the box.. and i assume it contains also a webbrowser.. so the infrastucture is there..
but to really make something userfriendly and expandable, i need informations on how to access the webbrowser and the torrent client codewise..

as i dont have a player at hand, without some help from people in the know, its not possible to go very far..

as i'm developing IT Security software in my other live, networking is also not foreign for me ;-)

Just heard back from my Red guy... the SDK is not yet available (but they're working on it), which may explain why we've not heard from any Red folks on this thread.

Thanks, Jarred.

Any chance you guys will enable playback of .RED files in RED Player for PC/Mac, not just .R3D?

REDRAY files require hardware decryption.. it's part of the security system ( and why productions are using them for dailies ) You can loose an entire hardrive with your unreleased movie on it and not need to worry about it.

And what if someone would like to distribute a .RED file free for others to watch, and whom don't have a REDRAY?
Is there a checkbox to tick which says "don't encrypt"?

EDIT: Well, I guess they could release it as an H.264 / H.265.

Hey I'm trying to find a red reel 2014 link and i can't seem to find any non red ray required (other then one shot on an iPhone). any chance someone could help me out and show me a link? i'm googling like crazy over here!

Loom is one of my favorite short films and that has nothing to do with it being shot on Red. I wish Luke Scott would direct Blade Runner II or Prometheus II. He has what Ridley Scott doesn't have anymore, the feeling for that special kind of atmosphere which Alien and the original Blade Runner had.

Is there any chance to get a hold of a 4K or 3D version of Loom that isn't for Redray? :undecided:

I'm the odd man out in my sci-fi circles (where more modern features make the favorites lists) but I think Bladerunner is still the best Sci-Fi film ever made... and when I heard that a second film was being shot my first response was excitement... thinking "The Empire Strikes Back"... then it was fear... thinking "Matrix 2". I really hope they can keep the atmosphere and the fantastic use of non-dialog sequences that made the first so incredible. Modern Sci-Fi films have to be so packed with shiny flashy objects that I think they lose something.

Or maybe it's just that I'm getting old and stubbornly staying loyal to the first truly great Sci-Fi film I'd ever seen. :)

Best example of a bad sequel to classics is Prometheus, it was the best evidence of Ridley loosing his grip on what made his first movies so great. He went into gods and kings and stuff which isn't really what Alien is about. Even though it wasn't supposed to be a direct prequel, it just felt forced to include Weyland and the alien species from the derelict. If he had made a movie called Prometheus set in it's own story then it might have worked out to be a good sci-fi. But when he forced that connection and made it a prequel it just got dislocated in all directions. In the first Alien they say the "lifeform" in the chair of the derelict ship had "grown out of the chair", but in Prometheus they have that skeleton as a space suit, without even being as big as the one in Alien or making any sense to the context presented in the first movie. That's just one of the issues with it.

This is my fear for Blade Runner II, that they will screw with the foundations of that work. It needs to be the cyberpunk-noir-slow-pacing story. Exactly what I felt when I saw Loom. It's the same feeling, like if Luke inherited the great sense of atmosphere from is father while his father keeps making movies very far from his sci-fi masterpieces.
