im working with redmote for last 3 days and here are the problems im having..
is there any chance to add firing up camera from Redmote in future?
it barely connects from 10 feet on crane (also preston microforce on epic)
any chance to add battery module on redmote for instant and fast charging? on epic its charging in 10 hours via mini usb its around 2hours.
would like to keep miniusb connected while charging but it goes to record accidentally dont understand where is the problem...
i think redmote looks unappropriate for future playback option how the hell im going to play and pause? from which buttons? shouldnt had to you guys add play pause buttons from the start?

I am having the same problems and concerns as Kemalettin with our REDMOTE and would also like to hear RED's oppinion on this?

Have to say we also didn't have much luck with Redmote wireless, more than 3m (10ft) and the connection was lost :(

we were using a C-Motion Wireless Focus Control, we didn't test if the reception would be better without the Remote Follow focus, did you ?

It's probably a good idea to check interference with other wireless controllers. I'd also make sure the firmware is up to date on the REDmote and the camera.

yes and yes.
the redmote is not working properly,
sorry to add: NOT AT ALL.
hard to get connection and even harder
to keep it.
but as always I guess RED is about to fix
it...

have had the same problems, it keeps re-connecting the whole time, even if you put it 2 meter away from the camera and don't touch it. The idea is great, but on set, it's wireless functionality is useless.

exactly!
very good thought but not usefull on set in the moment...
but I guess it's: WAIT AND SEE...

Not had much luck with range on mine either. I'm used to my various wireless gear (follow focus, SD or HD video transmission, hair-brained 2.4ghz RC contraptions) meaning that I can hide myself anywhere nearby on a location, or well off camera in studio... no practical limitations. The Redmote's link is presently not as robust. Knowing what is final and what is beta is a call we can't make of course.

REDMOTE wireless connection has always been flakey for me. Whether it's my REDMOTE or either of the two others I've used. I'm hoping it will get better and/or RED can address the issue when I send the EPIC-M in for the upgraded mount points and any other fixes I need.

That would be awesome, maybe it needs a stronger transmitter, what do you think?
I mean it really sad, that such a tool does not work properly right now!

It would be nice if someone from red could chime in about this issue. Are they aware of it, and is it going to improve in the future, that's the big question...? When the first redmote major firmware update came out, it didn't improve wireless stability yet, so let's hope this gets better

I wonder if it's antenna placement... at least on the camera body end of things.

The wireles link antenna on the Epic body is underneath the top plastic plate ahead of the exhaust grill. As the rest of the camera body is metal, the primary RF radiation pattern is likely going to be "upwards" in a semispherical pattern above the camera, as RF has much more difficult time penetrating the metal chassis/panels on the Epic's body "below" the antenna.

It seems like several of the folks reporting problems find it particularly troublesome when it's up on a crane, meaning that the RedMote is likely below the camera.

this is one of the reasons i don't like the whole M program...unfinished cameras that were/are on BETA firmware thats buggy...havn't even got my X yet and the industry here is all the buzz that it's the same RED story and R1 all over again...firmware problems, things just not working properly or at all, bad layout of interface as no IO options...just a camera that is 'released' and not finished. RED supporters here in my part of the world are already on the defensive and trying to defend it all over again. I just really hope this is sorted out very very quickly, the industry doesn't have patience here for these things, not when there's a solid option named Alexa right next door.

Um, how's that wireless remote on the Alexa working out? Thread here: http://www.arridigital.com/forum/index.php?topic=6052.0

I note that on top of the problems in the thread, Alexa owners had to pay $10k for an upgrade, and an additional (unpublished) fee for the RC unit that just started shipping this year. I'll stick to Red thanks!

Epic makes great images, and has done so from day one. The rest of it is just gravy, that Red can take their time with as far as I'm concerned.

Edgar, if i remember firmware V1.2 from Alexa, there where also lot of thing not enabled yet, and also a couple of bugs.
Since Cameras tend to be more and more computers instead of mechanical devices, this will be common in future i guess.

image quality is still on top of my camera decision list, and Epic is unbeaten on #1 on that list imho.

heh...don't have to convince me, I'm one of the most voracious supporters of RED I know...an early adopter and stage 2 participant. In fact I have been accused of borderline fanboyisms...rightly so. But in the end shipping M as a beta unit with beta firmware was always going to get the critics of RED saying "see, they did it again and it's unreliable as usual"...and this can/has spread like wildfire. I remember Jims comments we arenot shipping until it's ready position which fell by the wayside as soon as M went from a handful of selected few to anyone fronting the cash and then renting these units to the masses even though it was known in the RED community that they were on beta. Just saying...as it's fact and the stories are abound that it's just like the R1. But heh...bring it...I'm always down for a verbal showdown...love my R1 and will my X!
