Redmote Pro, thought his was undergoing a redesign. Any news ?

I understand why a lot of people are looking for the REDMote pro - as a focus control etc - But It would be great if they could just fix the problems with the existing REDMote… Every firmware update I have hope; that is usually dashed.

I have found my RedMote to be extremely reliable... as a paper-weight. :) I dream of the day it will maintain a connection reliably enough to use during a shoot.

I've found the Redmote really reliable as a Redmote. But I've been hearing all kinds of reports to the contrary since it hit the store. Mine came with an early Epic-M kit, and works reliably in about all of the situations I've needed it. It's battery has never been a problem either.

So... It might be interesting to see what people's camera configurations are, and if they seem to make a difference.

I have never used a top plate, I do use a side handle, and I use very few aks on the camera: a Paralinx wireless, and occasionally a Barco remote ff. they seem to have no effect on Redmote range or life.

Mine is unreliable no matter how the camera is configured, or if we are using / not using radio lavs or walkies on set. Even when working in my kitchen studio (25' x 25' - so very small space) it's unreliable connection wise, and freezes often.

Glen, your studio is built over a giant magnet! Ha ha.

Never had issues with my REDmote.

That seems to be the way - I've spoken to people who swear by it, never had any trouble; and others who look at it as a liability that never gets used in front of the client. I want mine to work, I think that it's an indispensable piece of kit, but it fails me so.

Someday...

So here's a dumb question... has anyone with multiple cameras ever had the redomote for one work while another is unreliable (same environment)? Anyone try using a redmote that's been reliable with a camera that has one that's unreliable (I'm guessing you can change the camera a redmote is sync'd with)? I've not had any problems with mine but I can't say I've used it enough to really know - though I just ordered a Jib for a job where the camera needs to be hung over a machine and we'll be testing the redmote out pretty effectively (in a noisy electrical environment) at that point.

Not a dumb question at all. I have two Scarlets - REDMote equally unreliable with both.

Given the choice between using a rock or a redmote to control your camera, I always suggest going with throwing the rock...plus you'll get better range anyways.

Our Redmote's have been fine. Took an ariel upgrade on camera to fix them though. Battery life is not so great.

My interest is in RedMote pro or whatever is proposed to replace it. Meizler is interesting but its a version of that we first saw plus a few extra controls that would be of interest.

I ditched mine when I got my RedRock microRemote FF system. I only used the Redmote to Run/Stop the camera on a crane anyways. Now that I can do that via the RR FF remote controller= no more Redmote frustration for me.

what ive noticed from my testing is that as soon as i put a quickback or a vmount backpack on my brain, i get 0 reception for the redmote. when its off or im running the quad mod, Excellent performance out of it. like up to 70 ft sometimes and farther. its awesome. But as soon as i strap on my switronix jetpack, it wont even get a signal at all. Super weird.
