  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDLogFILM > Rec.709 LUT - Anyone have one? Made one? Graeme?

Just wanted to thank Nick for his awesome RLF -> RG3 LUT! I just bought it and started to use in one part of my workflow when I process RLF in AE (typically to denoise) and then bring into Resolve and want to start grading with RG3.

Very happy so far!

that equation is not fully correct AFAIK, as the Rec709 spec includes a fixed offset... does Nuke's colorspace tool incorporate that ?

That equation is correct for a pure gamma function, which is all Gavin is giving as an example. Rec.709 is not a pure gamma function, and Nuke does provide the ccorrect mathematical transfer function for that.

However the situation is complicated by the fact that Rec.709 does not in fact define the transfer function for the monitor (which sRGB does) so a Rec.709 to sRGB LUT is not really appropriate. A Rec.1886 to sRGB LUT would be more suitable.

Why thank you sir!

Bought the LUTs from Nick myself - very happy as well.

Nick is also very nice.

Hello redusers, this is our version of lut redlogfilm to redgamma3 for Resolve. It's very similar to changing the raw settings to redgamma3 but it keeps the highlights a bit more low and we found it's more pleasing and easier to grade.
Please note: we are not professional lut builders, we developed this lut for internal use and we are sharing it only because we love Red community. So use it at your own risk :)
It works with redcolor2 and redcolor3, you may have to adjust contrast, offset and saturation depending of your image.

So, I finally get it what Red was trying to do all this time. Mainly, it is to prolong the status quo until Red works in ACES well enough, that you no longer need RLF to Rec709 LUT. Well, as far as I'm concerned, it worked:) I find using Red in ACES is pretty great, no explicit IDT needed. Just conform the material, select ODT and get going grading. The only problem remains, still no working metadata controls.
