I'm starting to really dig the idea of camera control via REDlink and iDevices (foolcontrol, naw meen?), but one thing that grinds my hopes/thoughts to a halt is what to do with the battery?

Currently I use a v-mount plate which takes up the back of the camera/module (where a redmote or REDlink would otherwise sit). The closest/easiest thing I can think of is using top mounted rails sticking out the back with the v-mount somehow mounted off that (presumably with a 15mm cheese plate), but that adds bunch of excess weight and bulk to the rig.

So, yeah, how is everyone else handling it? Are you in studio mostly? Have the v-mount mounted to the side of the camera (I couldn't because I use the side handle)? What?

You can mount the REDLink on the back of the quad battery module. Or use it with a Side Handle. You can have a battery plate off the back of the camera (shoulder mount, rails, or belt clip, etc.) and run the cable into the power plug. Or, you can run on AC.

Did I miss anything?

My problem with the battery module it makes the camera significantly longer and Im not so sure I want to go back that length again (used similar sized system in the past).

My vote (at the moment) is to run a the battery on a plate and rails allowing just enough space for the Redlink.

Terry ..do you use this battery module setup on the helix ?

So far, I have only powered the Helix/Scarlet combination with the Letus Juice Box. I get about 25 minutes of run time (both Helix and camera on constantly, shooting intermittently) with the 5200mA Helix battery. That configuration also did have the REDlink attached directly to the back of the camera. I will probably also try running the whole set-up from a RED Brick on a battery belt for longer run times.

Thanks Mikael, that's pretty much what I wanted to hear... Can't come soon enough.

Does that mean RED is licensing their module back/quick release thing as well (the two pegs and lip at the bottom/top of modules)?

Nope... Those will connect to the serial / control port on camera... Or someone could connect thru the gig-e lemo too. The idea here is a tiny side module to bridge wired to wireless and free the camera module chain for batteries. As of today only RED will be able to provide a module that gets power and communicate with the brain using those pins.
