  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDgamma3 and REDcolor3 update...

We are doing the final tweaks now... and I'm glad we took the extra time. Graeme has really put a lot of effort in this one.

The camera firmware and RCX-Pro will be released at the same time and the SDK will be updated pronto.

Jim

When might we get this update in Redcine X Pro?

THANKS FOR FINDING PERFECTION ...
This very important for us ...
Hope that Blackmagic Desing stay informed about this important update for DaVinci Resolve ...

Crossing fingers for a before Tuesday release so I can start my next shoot with the firmware and new color space.

You could get there with all the older color science options... but it sure is a lot easier now. Getting the color right with some of the older ones was an "art". Now it is one setting.

At 1st blush, you may just see subtle differences in REDcolor3 but it is a complete remapping of the color space and REDgamma3 makes a much better image on your monitor. It also makes a better dailies starting point... but I'm quite sure trained professionals will do a DI in REDcolor3 and REDlogFilm. REDcolor3 is probably the bigger update but REDgamma3 is a welcome improvement.

Jim

Thank you for the preview shots. The new color looks outstanding. It seems noticeably more "real" under all conditions posted, though some of it might be that I am looking for the improvement. A see a side-by-side would help us non-DPs tell the difference a little easier, but I definitely want to say that it looks significantly better. RG3 also has a nice contrasty look, with great highlight response. That might also have to do with RC3 I suppose. I can't wait to play with the new (digital) developing solution.

Yup. Things are getting to the point where I am teaching ENG (video-only) people how to use RED in their daily work as an alternative to the DSLRs.
Good!

RedlogFilm isn't going anywhere anytime soon for a lot of applications.
A total remapping of the colours tingles my imagination, though... :)

Great stuff
Betatesters???

:)

It is pretty fun opening up old files again. The original M sensor never looked so good.

Jim

Bang!

Right on the nose :)

Will be SOOOO much easier and faster to color correct!!!

Look at those red variations....the slight orange tint in the nose of the car...the deep red in Coca-Cola ad, the dark red on Bud ad.

The image is not large, but it seems to have superb deep but well defined dark grey to black too :)

WOW!

Cheers Graeme! Really!

Looks and sounds great, Jim! Can't wait to be able to try it!

I have to say, that's a beautiful-looking shot.

The hobbit people.... "skin tons nice... crap, why did we paint all our characters orange? "
I wouldn't underestimate Peter Jackson's people. They're closer to the cutting edge of anybody on the planet right now in terms of workflow, particularly pushing the envelope for 48fps and 3D. As long as they get what they want on the screen, the precise method for getting there doesn't matter, given their budget and time frame.

Sorry for the delay... lots of testing and tweaking before we release it.

This is worth waiting for. The improvement is incredible.

I am opening footage from 4 years ago and it looks spectacular! No curves or WB tweaks. Graeme's miracle.

The monitoring path looks much better. The files open looking so good. Skin is much improved. Overall... this is why you shoot REDCODE RAW.

Just a bit more time. We really want to get this right before release. Bare with us...

Jim

Years ago I saw a cheap Hitachi, or Toshiba, camera that had dynamic white balance across the frame, and maybe exposure, I knew that was the future then. For small videographers and the TV industry, this sort of automatic look is a real boon. I don't think many news departments and low budget, or live, shows would be thrilled to have to correct the image. Still, for the shoulder mount Eng TV network market, the present cameras need a more regular and weather resistent shoulder case it and extra modules can be mounted in. I think the cameras are exciting for the television market.

Still testing I think. And the software should be all the more stable for it.

I'd love to see more stills from Jim! There was just one so far right? (Or did I miss one?)
