REDCINEX = super soft?

looking on a panasonic straight out of the camera.. the image is TACK sharp..

throwing the footage into redcinex and viewing on my NEC.. its very soft..
whats going on here?

Full debayer will look softer than the half out of the camera. It's less edgy...

It doesn't mean that it is actually softer, though.

What is your video card output set to for the NEC Zak?
I have had issues with NEC's not scaling some resolutions well on the analog side in presentation systems. Does the output res match the native resolution of the monitor? If you are outputting 1080p to a non-1080p monitor it can be an issue. They have gone very cheap with scalers on the analog side these days.
DVI should be better.
It is not just NEC, I see this issue with a lot of low to mid-price range computer monitors these days. There is a reason those Panasonics cost more.

On the left side just above Curve there is: Look Control>Image>>Sharpness.

There can be adjusted.

Have you tried going out of the redrocket HD-SDI back into the Panasonic?

I have been shooting 4.5K WS RC 36 on a Red-MX and am blown away by the sharpness and detail coming out the Redrocket. I am using a Panasonic both on the set and during transcoding. Even when I just take a 3K x 1.25K for a CU and output it as ProRes 4444 1920 x1080 there is amazing detail. Much better then what we were getting with a CineAlta at full 1920 x 1080.

Sanjin: i'm looking at my RCX build 356--i see sharpness and denoise control, BUT, neither can be adjusted. I thought this was something coming soon. How can we enable sharpness and denoise control?

I'm viewing recently shot redMX 2k 16:9 footage shot overcranked or normal speed and also 4k 16:9 and NEITHER allow me adjustment of sharpness or denoise?

Sharpness and denoise are not supported by the RED ROCKET. So if you're using a rocket the controls will be disabled in REDCINE-X. You'll have to disable the rocket and use software mode to enable them.
