Hello,
I'm having this problem for a long time. I see it in so many forums but never found any answer. When I export from RCX in Prores, my video is washed out in quicktime. If I use the native iMac calibration it's not really noticeable, but if I use my custom screen calibration i can really see the difference. Any solution?

Try HQ or PR 4444 do not set your gamma to auto in the QT settings.

Thanx David but that's what I usually do, I export in prores 4444 with gamma correction to none.

I've never seen a gamma issue with 4444 material. Is this on mac?

Yes on a imac 2013. But I had that before on different mac.

How does the shot look if imported into FCP instead of QT player 7 or 10?

It's the same in FCP.
Even the R3D opened in FCP shows the gamma shift.

What Marc said. Some of us for literally years have been hoping and bugging the Quicktime team to remedy this. It's unknown to me why this is still an issue.

I know that it has been discussed a billion times for years. I was expecting, as i wasn't following the events for a while, that there would be an answer now. Apple let down the professionals a few years ago. That's sad, they were a big part of their success in the past. Now they just want to simplify everything. There should just be a button to click if we want the gamma shift or not.
But i was under the impression that color matching between rcx and quicktime was working at some moment on my computer.

Does QT even matter anymore for the current workflow environment? FCPX no longer relies on QT, right? So the issue is a legacy one? If so, I can't imagine you will see a fix coming from Apple as they have moved on.

Terry. Apple is actively trying to be the codecstandard with Prores, which makes this an issue.
Everyone is happy when camX starts recording Prores over "fill-in-crappy-codec-here"

I'm with Phil on this (too :) )

Well, even if I open the R3D directly in FCPX the gamma shift is there. If I open it in resolve it looks the same as in RCX, I export it to prores, it's fine in resolve, fine in VLC (not prores 4444 though), but the gamma shift still plays in quicktime. FCPX is limited by that I think. I use it to edit only, but I don't feel comfortable working on gamma shifted images even if they are not the final ones.

Just trying to understand the nuances here... are you saying there is a gamma shift inside of FCPX as well?
