  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X

I assume he means realtime WITH RedRocket....

I see that you get realtime with Rocket cine X, which has basically the same features as red alert, but do redrocket users also get realtime playback inside red alert?

There is no reason to use RED Alert! if you have a RED Rocket. Use ROCKETcine-X or REDCINE-X when it is released.

Jim

Jim, from your point of view, When REDCINE-X comes out, will it replace red alert for those of us WITHOUT Red Rocket?

First of all I'm very exited, as every one else, here, about REDCINE-X, especially since is an app looking towards the multiple platform workflow of Motion and Still editing, but I convert all my Photographs files to DNG, will REDCINE-X support this format?

Btw, sorry if this is already been posted some were, just couldn't find it if it was :)

ROCKETcine-X will have to wait till I get the new Tower :)

ciao

In my opinion, REDCINE-X will be the app of choice whether you have a Rocket or not.

Jim

Sorry about that...I did mean RocketCine-X. Wow, I'm a bit confused with these products. Isn't the new RED CineX being made with RED Rocket in mind so it will play clips real time?

Thus, my original question. If we have a Rocket, won't RocketCineX and RED Cine-X be redundant? It seems like a lot of work just went into RocketCineX if as soon as Cine-X comes out, we won't use it anymore.

Just wondering what the RED thinking is (dangerous, I know) about how this lines up?

Non-Rocket Crowd: RED Alert, Red Cine
Rocket Crowd: RocketCineX, REDCINE-X (but these do the same things, no?)

Thanks for shedding some light.

Kevin

No Kevin, not from what I understand it, REDCINE -X will be for every one, and REDROCKETcine-X only for those that have the REDROCKET installed in their computers.

But then, what does RocketCineX do that can't be done in RedcineX ? Why not just one app for both ?

REDCINE-X is working with using GPU or RED ROCKET, REDALERT! works with CPU power with REDLINE that works with CPU power. With REDLINE, you can use Q-master.

In order to operate the REDROCKETcine-X you will need one of this: http://www.red.com/store/701002http://www.red.com/store/701002 and to operate the REDCINE-X you don't, that alone suggest that the RRcine-X is for much heavier work loads, I can't really go in to details as My self am just but starting on studying editing, but I'm sure some one else will.

Ketch, I understand this. But here's the question:

If we have a Red Rocket (which I do)...once REDCINE-X comes out, is there something that RocketCine-X does that REDCINE-X does not? Or, as Jim stated above, wouldn't everyone just use REDCINE-X?

I don't see the reason for developing RocketCine-X...unless I'm overlooking something or unless it was just a "bridge app" to buy time until the main app came out.

Thanks!

kevin, I think the answer is no. When Redcine X comes out, it seems like everyone will probably use that.

As Jarred has explained, they're still deep in alpha territory so it will be a while before a full featured redcine x is available. I assume rocketcine X was developed so that people could take advantage of the cards now, before redcine x is released.

seems very reasonable to me.

I think pretty much once REDCINE-X comes out, the old REDCINE and REDALERT apps are going to disappear, along with RocketCine-X.

I think that RocketCine-X is just a temporary solution for playing back footage with RedRocket to be used until REDCINE-X comes out.

RocketCine-X is likely to be a very useful application for on-set viewing and transcoding in ways that RedCine-X may not be.

We also don't know what the playback functionality of RedCine-X will be yet. So I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about the shelf life of these apps.

Sneak Peek...

Sneak Peek...

I just got a sneak peek. After getting up from the floor, with the help of my wife and son obviously, I am speechless... :emote_22_yikes:

NO the REDCINE-X will not even come close to replace REDROCKETcine-X, not from what little I understand!!

The connectivity and possibilities offered by the REDROCKET/REDROCKETcine-X will far surpass the possibilities of REDCINE-x, there will be basolutely no sense, as some one suggested, for RED to build a temporary system with hardware in the upwards of 5k, I believe that we are only seen but a small part of what REDROCKET/REDROCKETcine-X will go.

What Jim said in a post some were, is that once REDCINE-X comes out there will be no more need for RED ALERT, as people will be more likely to abandon it for REDCINE-X, He never mention any one using REDROCKETcine_x which can only be used with the REDROCKET hardware.

Ketch, Redcine X will have redrocket acceleration along with many more features than the current rocketcine x. You maybe right and there might be a place for that app along side RCX, but from what it sounds like from Jim, RCX looks like it will probably be everyone's go-to app.

Ketch, what Brandon said is what I'm talking about. REDCINE-X will support the Rocket, so again, my question to RED was: Is there any reason we (Rocket owners) would want to use RocketCine-X once REDCINE-X comes out? Jim basically said "no."

With the non-rocket apps (Alert vs Cine), there were more differences. Alert was single file only...fewer controls...thus, a better dailys/field based app, with Cine being the post based app. BUT, the new RocketCine-X HAS batch clip rendering, etc...so it's closer to Cine. Does this make sense?

Gosh, lots of posts when I guess it doesn't really matter. They're great tools...
