  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X

Well, as someone who is not Off Hollywood but is rather In Hollywood, I would say that there are multiple realities in our business. There is the reality of independent production, and there is the reality of studio based and broadcast network production. And these are indeed two different realities. In my reality, there is only one network show that is on Red, but at least 20 that are on either Genesis, F35, or F23. And there are very few studio based features that are on Red, but a number of them on the aforementioned cameras. Buzzwords and paranoia are very powerful things, especially in Los Angeles. What I said was said with respect to that reality - the one in which your math is not fact. Granted, there are reasons I wasn't commenting on (post production, and the perceived confusion surrounding it being a primary one), but that doesn't negate what I did say.

Mark, you know that at the studio and network level it's not about being stubborn or a preservationist. Maybe for some cameramen it is, but it's not for the producers and executives who make these decision. It's about reliability and quality, trusted vendors, and flexibility. It's about formats and methodologies that are transportable across vendors, facilities, and deliverable elements. It's about having generally agreed upon ways of handling things so that when turnarounds get tight and post needs to be accelerated, that can be done because everyone works essentially the same way. And, since a network television season can last 8 or 9 months, it's also about having things that don't significantly change from July of one year through April of the next. You might consider that stubborn. I consider it decision making that takes into account the realities of the television business.

HOLLYWOOD is was and always will be a LATE ADOPTER... and have been since the dawn of cinema... the resistance to change will always be there
because there are BILLIONS of DOLLARS involved...

Talkies
Color
TV
Home Video
and on and on...

Hollywood is always LAST to the party, but thats doesnt mean they are correct in doing so.

perceptions are funny things - just six months ago, the idea of a RED camera being put to work on a major network TV show seemed miraculous, now we are engaged in a debate over the numbers of TV shows, quality and budgetary considerations of the studio productions under discussion, etc.

regardless of the current reality (or the current perception, for that matter...), RED cameras are only going to gain in these numbers, the clock is not going to turn back. if RED, a 1-1/2 year old technology, is "only" involved in one major network production right now, let's check back another six months from now and see the stats...

And Jim must realize the importance of not perpetuating the "work in progress" aspects of Red One, at all.

If Red puts out a second camera that is easily debatable in any circle, then the next step in their world domination plan would become harder to achieve.

I think Jannard is smarter than that.

"HOLY SHIT ... they are shipping the Mysterium X sensor ... ALREADY".

Thanks Mark a lot,

I just wanted to HEAR about that pretty soon Misterium-X announcements or even shipping.

Also I know that reality could be exactly like this: Misterium-X sensor upgrade available for purchase to all RED ONE owners...

I do not think that Epic or Scarlet go on before this option could even happened because it is easy to ship all of them when X-SENSOR is ready...

RED sensor program is in a heart of RED digital cinema project or I'm totally wrong...???!!

Just my two Spanish Pesetas from Ibiza...

I like the watermelon and the champagne (prefer Pol Roger) ... Ibiza is looking damn good ...

BTW, here you can feel a certain SLOW DOWN because of the economy and in general that is exactly what is just happening around the globe...

Jim is right to still (HOLD) or "not able to ship" of "promised" RED "beauties" but we could understand this at all...

Also in meantime the comeptition can get even a bit "softer" and as I was thinking in the next year or two Jim is going and would be able to make a certain "putsch" in overall cine industry and take over the (ACQUISITION) market...

It all means to wrap (high end) film (acquisition) usage in a shape and to more extend a cheaper digital acquisition...

Also I can see that Sony and Arri are going to get in a big troubles SOON (this Fall) just because they have a long and heavy tails of unprofitable parts...

Panavision (buyout) is just a matter of time (and money too) for RED....

That's all how it looks from my Ibiza panorama terrace this Summer 2009...

Sorry...

Well ... if you ever get a chance to try a 1996 Pol Roger Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill Brut you will forget how to spell Moët.

I think we are officially ... OFF TOPIC.

You're making me take lots of abuse for a simple play on words :nono:

Well, according to the way they do things in Washington now, we'll just have to get you two to sit down, have a beer together, and all will be well. :-)

All is and always has been well. Mark and I are friends. We just like to f**k with each other every now and then...
