I’ve been quite a bit confused during the last few months of the RCX v50 betas, in that there has been so much talk about how IPP2 works well with older RED footage (MX / Dragon) - offering all of its benefits across the board. Problem is, I haven’t found a way to activate IPP2 for older footage.

It seems that when I setup IPP2 controls in RCX v50, I can get Helium footage to instantly convert to the new controls... but RCX gives me a black screen output and a forever spinning orange loading wheel when opening Dragon / MX footage with the IPP2 controls active. If I change my settings to Legacy controls or to determine the controls based on the way the shot was filmed, the older clips work with Legacy controls.

My question is - how do I get IPP2 controls in RCX for Dragon and MX footage? Am I stuck in Legacy with LUTs / Log3 / RGB Wide? Is there a convert button? Do I need to delete my .rmd files so it can create new ones?

I’d love to move a few current (Dragon) projects over to IPP2 for finishing, and wasn’t sure the proper method to do a preliminary color job in RCX using IPP2. Loving it with my Helium footage !

Anthony,

In the screengrab below, is footage from red.com that is Epic Dragon 4kHD footage in version 5.0, Do you have these image pipeline settings?

Start from empty project

2) Then Go to "edit" the "preference".

Are these the settings you have under " image pipeline"?

if those "image pipeline" settings don't work, try these starting from an empty project.

It could be something with Redcine-X pro 5.0 sensing the legacy metadata with the "show ipp2 or legacy controls based on clip's metadata" setting causing a problem.

Hey Rand !

So actually, I'm noticing that this seems to be a REDROCKET-X issue currently. I've had all of my settings (as you've made note of above) situated during most of my testing, and nothing would budge... So, while I was working with a friend this afternoon - I had him install the new v50 RCX to test his Raven footage with IPP2. It worked flawlessly.

When I arrived home a few minutes ago, I decided to turn off my RRX from RCX. Low and behold, RCX v50 started playing back the IPP2 Dragon footage back without a hitch. As soon as I turned the Rocket back on, I was getting absolutely nothing but a spinning loading wheel ! What I did notice is that my RRX would finally decode an image at 1/16 for IPP2. Once I brought it above that, my computer would freak out.

I made a quick video below. You'll see that when I have RRX on and move the debayer above 1/16 - the status bar freaks out. This might just be a RRX bug or a RCX bug. I'll report it in the morning. Helium footage is working great, but Dragon is not (with RRX and IPP2). But hey, I love your Venice shot! :)

Hopefully someone else might chime in with their experiences.

Anthony,

hate to hear you are still having playback problems with the redrocket-x card. The Venice footage is from red.com sample library, wish it was mine. Have you tried maybe messing around with the "system" settings under "preferences" or maybe putting some of your clips on a different drive and reading them from there?

Anthony,

I went through all the Redcine-x pro betas and each time a new one came out I would uninstall the prior one first, restart the computer, install the new one then restart again. Have you tried uninstalling everything, restarting, and reinstalling the new version, then restarting? maybe there are some conflicting components of version 42.0.0 still hanging around in your system that maybe hanging up the redrocket-x card. Did you uninstall the drivers for the redrocket-x card, restart the computer and reinstall them? Just thinking of some more suggestions. Hopefully Red will find a solution to your problem soon.

Hey Rand, I use an app that deletes all of the lingering preference files every time I install something new. I especially did the same coming out of this beta into the stable v50.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, maybe its just a simple setting that we both are unaware of that will make the difference.

I'm having this same exact issue. Rocket-x card processes the helium 8k footage just fine and dandy, but when I goto Epic Dragon 6k footage, it just hangs on loading the first frame and will not process.

Has anybody figured out what is happening or a solution?

Thanks in advance

Same Problem. RocketX with ipp2 and dragon 6K not working

Same Problem. RocketX with ipp2 and dragon 6K not working

Just to let everyone now. I have the same problem. So this is obviously a major issue!

I can attest to having the same problem. Works fine with no Rocket X ...however no luck with Dragon footage with Rocket x turned on. Hopefully will get sorted out. Using an older version of Red Cine to work around for now. Nice to hear I'm not the only one.

Thanks for posting

RC-X v50.1 w/ RRX in Sonnet iii-d via TB2 to 12-core/D700/64GB/1TB nMP w/ fresh installs of macOS 10.12.6 and/or 10.13.1 will only render briefly at 1/16 w/ IPP2 controls enabled (default settings when installed) after about 30 seconds the nMP freezes and requires a hard forced reboot. Dragon footage of my own plus red.com samples tested

Turning off IPP2 and using legacy-only does allow RRX to work w/ RCX v50.1

The above is being experienced on vanillia virgin installs of macOS after wiping the drive each time.

Only non-vanillia elements added are latest red software: apple workflow, rrx driver/firmware, RCX (installed in that order w/ two shutdowns in between each install and running w/ "csrutil disable"

FYI, Yes I called RED support about it. Ticket# 94793

And yes, this is a big problem. As it stands, there may be no way to get full IPP2 controls w/ RRX for dragon footage on Mac :sad:

Working in legacy does allow for RWG and Log3G10 selection, but no tonal or highlight mapping.

Will attempt to duplicate issue on 2nd mac tomorrow. This other mac has never been Upgraded to 10.13.x and may shed light on possible apple firmware update issues introduced by upgrading to high sierra.

No idea how (or if possible) to roll back mac firmware if unable to replicate on 2nd mac system.

Replicated exact issue on another Mac on 10.12.6 that has never previously been upgraded to High Sierra.

Possibility of Apple firmware issues ruled out.

And discovered more issues w/ RCX 50.1

No video output monitoring!

Tested all dropdown options
RRX in Legacy mode (only SDI)
BMD ultrastudio mini monitor (self contained TB unit)
BMD decklink mini monitor 4k (pcie card in TB2 box)

The above 3 video out methods worked for RCX build 42
In general RCX build 42 was very stable. Build 50.1 not-so-much

Still testing, but so far if on Mac...

Stick w/ RCX build 42 and use Resolve's limited IPP2 implementation

AND/OR

Reserve one non-RRX system to run RCX 50.1 for (e)GPU IPP2 transcodes only

WARNING
Found no reliable downgrade method w/out wiping boot volume.

Current uninstall instructions don't work for me on two different macs. Resulting in glitchy build 42 performance and RRX being randomly unavailable after downgrading rom 50.1 to 42. Then only after boot volume is wiped and 10.12.6 reinstalled does RCX 42 work as expected.

Will do one final test to confirm if helium footage even works on mac w/ RCX 50.1 IPP2 + RRX

Tests concluded.

Helium sensor footage from Epic-W and Weapon does work very well on macOS 10.12.6 w/ Rocket-X in RCX 50.1 using IPP2 controls/projects
Even the Levels option worked for Helium w/ RRX - can't say if it ever worked for Dragon!

However; still no video output monitoring with three different devices

And any Dragon footage from Scar-W, Raven, Epic-D, or Scar-D does not play/transcode in RCX when a RRX card is active for IPP2 projects on Mac

Work-around for now is stick w/ RCX build 42 for onset/rushes and use Resolve's limited IPP2 implementation.
Rolling back from 50.1 may require a boot volume wipe, even if wiped prior to 50.1 install, before build 42 works as expected.

TEAM RED

Please consider providing a Mac uninstall utility for Redcine-X Pro
