  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X PRO Build 23.2 BETA

After I upgrade my sensor I will need to upgrade my computer.

anyone else having issues on Windows with Cuda?

I keep getting "R3D Demosaic Store: Failed to create buffer array 2.11"

Yup. I am getting it too. I just figured maybe it was my old GTX 285. However, it is working (although somewhat slow) in OpenCL mode.

Same here on OS X 10.9.2 with a GTX 285 even though it is now listed as supported by the latest Nvidia Web Driver: 331.01.01f01. OpenCL working with QuarterRes in realtime.

"R3D Demosaic Store: Failed to create buffer array 2. 11" being reported thousands of times.

This also now makes DaVinci Resolve 10.1.3 crash as soon as it start processing an R3D frame. Too bad, I was so excited to finally see GPU debater in Resolve as well.

REDCINE X is amazingly fast and very convenient for color correction - PRE before start dropping raw in a Timeline...I wonder if RED is planning to enhance it even further with the color wheels, HLS, individual levels, and be more like Speedgrade or Blackmagic. Is that coming? Just wondering heheheh....

I know this is way deep in the thread now, but I think it's time to request "retina" and HiDPI display support. We're about to start seeing a lot of new 4K or high DPI desktop monitors coming and most people will be running them using the "retina" scaling, regardless of whether on OSX or Windows. REDCINE-X on the 24" Dell 4K is awesome, but I have to switch to native res before I launch so that I can take advantage of my pixels. And notebooks are now powerful enough to rip through 4K and 5K files pretty easily and all the good ones are shipping with HiDPI displays... Well, most of them, HP needs to get the pixel density up on those DreamColor panels.

Hey Jeff,

I'm a bit puzzled here. RCX has supported Retina about as soon as it came out. What we don't necessarily support on Windows is HiDPI display support. Which of these is not working properly for you?

I'll add Windows HiDPI support to the list of things to check out.

Wait seriously? On the day that I order 2 Titan Blacks?

I knew something like this would probably come but not fully enabled! Interested in what the clock speed is...

Gah!

All cores are fully enabled and specifically made to process 5k content. They are 3K usd though

Hi Rob,
My 13" levono laptop with 3200x1800 display has an issue with RCX, and I'm not sure what can be done about it :
The menu text is so tiny you can't read it without a loupe !
I'd love to see as many pixels as I can while reviewing shots in the field , the reason I picked that laptop.

Hi Les,

Yes, there currently is no support for what's known as HiDPI under Windows. What is your DPI set to for that display if you are running it at your ideal setting?

Thanks,

Rob

Hey Rob,

Yes, Hi DPI under Windows would be nice, but Microsoft is still trying to figure that out themselves, so… I guess it's something to add to the list for whenever it makes sense.

Now, on to the retina scaling on the Mac. Something is not right here. When running a 3840x2160 pixel display, if I want proper 1:1 pixel representation in my viewer window, I have to switch to full native resolution and not run as a "retina" scaled resolution. If I'm at the 2560x1440 equivalent scaling, retina-enabled apps like Photoshop and FCPX still allow 1:1 pixel access in my image windows, but RCX is not doing this properly. If I switch to full screen view with a 4KHD clip, it should show as 1:1 pixels on the display, but it does not, it's like RCX is not seeing the retina mode and is scaling the clip to 2560 pixels across and then it gets stretched by the system to fill the display. If I choose 100%, it's scaled and not 1:1 pixels -- so I have to click on my display prefs and set full pixel resolution and not a retina scaled equivalent to actually see all 3840 horizontal pixels of a 4KHD clip or 1:1 pixels of any other.

Same results, but scaled proportionately to the retina scale chosen if I choose 1920x1080 or 3200x1800 desktop equivalents.

I'm going to try it here in a bit on my Macbook Pro Retina. I rarely use that system for RCX these days, but after I made my post above, I caught myself thinking "I thought they already put in retina support." So I need to go see if it's working there. One of my theories is that since the monitor is running in MultiStream DisplayPort 1.2 mode, it's technically two 1920x2160 displays put together on one panel. I'm wondering if that has something to do with how RCX is seeing this. Perhaps it's basing its scaling metrics off the primary or origin display size and not the desktop area or window size?

Rob,
I will have to check ( laptop not with me ) but it's prabably factory default .
Maybe for now you can compile a separate version for hi resolution screens ? I know you use a cross platform UI toolkit, how does it work on the Mac side of that package ?

So I've just downloaded 23.3 and am trying to export a series of TIFFs using ADD stills export, but nothing is happening when I hit the Export button.

Could someone give me the quick and dirty steps needed to export a clip as a series of TIFF files (or other format) using the ADD render option?

Here's the LOG file from RedCine-X in case it helps debug a problem:

Paul,

Currently, you can only export marked frames in a clip, or still frames in a clip with A.D.D. In 23.3, there is no way to export an entire clip with A.D.D. enabled.

Did some benchmarks with our new iMac and MacBook Pro Retina (first version)

iMac OpenCL: 27s
Mac Pro OpenCL: 1:08
MacBook Pro OpenGL 1:06 (but the laptop crashed after)
iMac No GPU: 3:25min (28% load)
Mac Pro no Gpu 3:56

So to summarize the iMac laptop takes 2.5 times longer to render with the gpu enabled which is a pretty big difference!

Have 2 bugs. I cannot save a project then I get an error. Also if I export clip or clip in viewer nothing happens, but exporting project works.

Cheers
/Andreas
