  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDCINE-X Build 351... finally.

Not sure if this is already reported... but launching RCX from a saved .rcx file attempts to launch the app, but then fails. App unexpectedly quits. Opening the project from the already open app works.
This issue will be fixed in the next build.

Is the convergence (HIT/VIT) working? I've created a 3D clip with 2 clips shot on 30.5 and both setting are greyed out. Color Match is also unavailable.. I can adjust Frame Offset and swap L/R and view in anaglyph so 3D is working for the clip..

Both aren't available yet.

Just amazing....
so so amazing...

i Just converted a heap of shots to 4444 (REDLOG) PRO RES (its my thing)
I purposely under exposed about 20 shots just to see what I could actually retrieve. Blow me down.. I can't even find the shots that were underexposed. I was up to 3 stops underexposed and there is still a useable image.
Seriously seriously forgiving. It's getting to the stage that the aperture is not becoming that important.

I went back to the RAW files to see what was left and there was even more info.
If only all those 5D users really new what they were missing out on.

Damn you RED!

This new redcine is so good with my M footage that now I have to regrade all my footage from a film I'm working on!

It looks so much better!

Dems some purdy pitchers Chris! Really nice.

RC2 and RG2 need to be available in everything RED native asap... adobe, color, resolve... everything.

eyeon confirmed that they will be releasing a new build of Fusion as soon as RED finalizes and releases the new ColorScience and SDK. I'm sure these other vendors are all patiently waiting to do the same.

Will there be a new camera build? sorry if this has already been answered.

I often get a redexport unexpectedly quit error and its not just this version of redcine-x either, it happened in one of my previous installs.

The application keeps running but the exporter dies.

32 bit Mac with a Rocket

Any thoughts?

I'm sure they looked good before but those examples are really capturing that difficult to define "goodness" that film color response has, somewhat exclusively, had previously.

Ok guys, about conforming: the currently RCX build 351 imports FCP XML with one extra frame per clip, this is a trouble for long timelines.
I've managed a workaround.
1 In FCP export an EDL and XML
2 Import the EDL into RCX and when RCX asks for EDL settings set the timecode source out to EXCLUSIVE (this is crucial or it won't work)
3 RCX will import your timeline correctly, then grade the clips and render
4 In Clipfinder run conform on FCP XML, set as XML input file the XML that you have previously exported from FCP and choose a name for the XML output file.
Don't check "replace clips with ..." and check the other options. Adjust the sequence with your clips resolution and run conform.
5 Import the new XML into FCP.
Now you will have a new FCP timeline with the clips exported from RCX. Wow!

Hi Quentin,

Did you see my earlier post (#78):
http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51413&page=8

If you can confirm, that would be great.
Again, having simultaneous REDLine's running trying to export to the same file is a no go at the moment.

David

Hi David,

Sorry for not getting back to you on this. I know we had gone over the log files via e-mail and I have been away shooting a friends band playing a gig and spending time with my kids.

I don't think this is more than one REDline working on the same file because it is set to 4 Redlines max and four separate clips are reportedly being processed at once. As you suggested via e-mail it looks like the system is running out of RAM whilst working on so many 4K streams at once. I will try and test on another system soon.

Both aren't available yet.

Two questions:

1. Is mxf output available in Redline yet?

2. Any timetable for a new SDK to the third party vendors (you do know who I'm talking about, of course ;-)) ) to incorporate the new color options?

Strange behavior with runaway timeline on Build 351: I've got a timeline with about 50 shots. When I select a shot in the middle of the timeline, then try to drag it to the left and try to drop it into an earlier place in the timeline, the scrollbar for the timeline starts shifting continuously to the right, and won't stop until it reaches the right hand limit of the window. Then if I try to scroll back to see the shots in the timeline, the scroll bar takes off on its own, moving steadily to the right again. Same thing happens with Build 326. Also, the scroll wheel will expand the timeline, but not contract it. I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Richard Weinberg

MXF has been in redline for quite a long time. You have to do it via an export preset though.

Next week for the SDK. We got enough requests to put it out sooner in RCX rather than later so it made sense to push it out earlier. Even though we know it would push your buttons :)
