I have attached 2 files

The first is in Premiere and shows the R3D file in REDWideGammaRGB Log 3G10, looking lovely (ungraded)
The second is the same in REDCine - showing as REDWideGammaRGB Log 3G10, looking terrible with all the cheap LED artefacts from the previous colour space

I have REDCINE set to always convert to IPP2 but I'm still getting old colour space
How can I manually update the footage to new colour space - have tried using Legacy but that didn't help

What am I doing wrong?

Ian,

Could you provide an .R3D clip for this footage? Also, what version of redcine-x pro are you using? Version 50.0.0 ?

Also,

What settings do have selected under"Image: output transform" are they something like below.

Ian,

try this

1) Open up a new project in redcine-x

Screenshot (9) by rand thompson, on Flickr[/IMG]

Don't import anything into yet.

2) Go to "Edit" then "Preferences"

3) Try these setting.

Press "Ok", Then import your footage again.

Here is what the settings look like after I brought the "Blue" channel to be in line with the "Red" and "Green" channels in the "Shadows"

Rand, I always learn cool shit from your posts!

I'm seeing no issues here. My IPP2 example looks just like your screenshot from REDCINE-X Pro at the top of this post. It's very saturated which is expected in a scenario like that, but it's not ugly like the DragonColor2 example below.

RCX with IPP2 looks like this:

RCX with DC2/RG4 looks like this:

The first one is from RCXP, and the second one is from Premiere, and to me it looks like you haven't any "log to 709" transform going on.
But that's just me, I'm on mobile right now...

Here is the .r3d clip and .rmd file of the corrections I made in Redcine-X pro to give me a better even tone skin for which to start with in Davinci Resolve

I always like to start from scratch everytime I grade in resolve so after every grade I delete it. I have since deleted the grade for the image above. I do this because I don't want to keep a grade around as crutch to help grade other things with. This second grade was an entirely new grade from scratch which actually gave me a better image than the last one did.

That orange/yellow face with blue back of the head and neck, along with that little magenta area on his temple, was kicking my ass in grading so I finally found way to even the entire area out a little.

Here is the Entire Interface.

And here is what you will see when you import the .R3D file linked above into redcine-X.

It gives you a better starting point than that orange/yellow face with blue back of the head and neck. All I did was a little 3D qualifying and a little "Hue Vs Sat", and a few power windows to do the rest.

I was going to delete this so I posted here before I did.

Thanks again everyone, these are great

2 things:
1 How do you embed the images in the message- I was restricted with the lo-res upgrades?

2 What I'm trying to find out is a technical, not a creative issue - this is for offline edit, pre-grade - and I'm trying to find out why RedCine is not providing the same image as Premiere and Resolve
Here are the files in premiere and Resolve - ungraded

here is what I see in Redcine -as before

Surely Redcine should be able to show me the raw log file like Premiere and Resolve do - this is what I want to use as my Proxy files

Ian,

from looking at your screen grabs from davinci and premiere, the "color space" and "gamma" are set to "redwidegamutRgb" and "log3g10", which will still need a grade or a transform lut, to bring it into the "rec709" color space that's why they are both flat with raised blacks.

And from your screen grab from redcine-X, you have a monitoring colorspace of "redwidegamutrgb" but with a monitoring gamma curve of "bt1886", that should be "log3g10" to get what you are seeing from premiere and davinci. You will also have to export your footage out of redcine-x as ,if I can remember, as a "primary grade only RWG/log3g10" file to keep that look to be graded in another program.

Also you have an iso of 1280 in premiere and an iso of 800 in both davinci and redcine-x. Plus, I don't think the new SDK with full support of IPP2, which has been available from red for a few weeks now, has been fully implemented into Premiere and Resolve yet. This could also possibly explain a slight variant in appearance between the three.

Rand, I vastly prefer your first shot at it. The second one lacks color and the third is far too warm, personally.

Ian, Rand already answered it for you, so now I want to ask why you would want to do an offline edit with flat images. Why not offline edit the proxies with the proper output transform for your monitor?

Also, we're embedding higher resolution images on the forum by hosting the images on a third party website and embedding them here with the
