  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red_Control

I thought I understood that the red_control ap enabled one to control the Raptor camera. Is this true? If so how? I have loaded this onto my iPhone 10 and I can't find any way to control the camera. Did I misunderstand something?

Yes, you can control every aspect about the camera via Red Control. You'll need to connect via Wi-Fi or via a Lightning to USB-C connection. The step-by-step instructions are in RED's online manual for the V-Raptor, but it's as simple as connecting the V-Raptor to your local Wi-Fi (Infrastructure mode) and enabling Live Stream via the V-Raptor settings menu on the AC panel. Then open the app on your iPhone that's connected to the same Wi-Fi network, and connect. If you want to connect via USB-C, you'll have to manually enter the IP address of the camera the first time. Perhaps others can chime in if I missed anything.

Dwight, Thank you for the info. I am new to all this. So I guess I have to have the camera set up and powered up to see the controls on the phone screen? I was just fooling around with the phone. Camera is not set up. Any other little clues here will help. I'll have to print out the manual tomorrow. I just received the camera. What is the requirement on the Lightening USB-C cable?

No problem, I'm new as well. But yes, the camera will need to be powered on and configured for live streaming, which is what makes Red Control possible. The manual is instrumental, I'd definitely save the PDF for your iPad, or even better, print it out. Just a normal Lightning to USB-C cable will work, nothing special on that end.

Dwight, You're ok. I will plan on printing the manual out tomorrow. I have to get a new ream of dry paper. I live in a humid area and paper swelling is a problem. I'm a naturalist artist ornithologist writer etc. I am ok with photo; but this is my first video camera. I chose what I determined was the best camera I could scrape up the bucks to get as I have a project I want to put into video format. Thanks for your advice.

Sounds like you selected well. I've had several video-focused mirrorless camera, and even owned a few budget cinema cameras for a while, but this is my first step into a true high end cinema camera. It's well above my pay grade, but like you, I wanted the best out there, and have always been fascinated with RED since the late 2000s

I am in my own simple way happy to report that I managed to master lesson number one. Turning the V-Raptor camera on to run by itself, linking it to my iPhone via USB-C cable, and, linking it to my iPhone via WiFi. Thanks to those making suggestions ... Jonathan Petts (of Red) and Derek Cooper on the Red V-Raptor page and then Dwight D seen above on this Reduser.net page. Nice folk. Once I had access to the workings of the camera, I started exploring the operation of it. In the simplest sense it appears that it is not that difficult to operate; but then, there is a Phd level of stuff to learn and experiment with beyond that. This is going to be fun.
