When using the Apple ProRes files for dailies, what is the process for applying the Color / LUT to the ProRes dailies files? The ProRes seems to be defaulted flat w/o the LUT applied. Wanting the ProRes to match the color profiles of the RED RAW R3D footage.

Thanks!

Best,
Adam

I would pull the ProRes files through a secondary program like Resolve and apply DragonColor / RedGamma4 to apply a temporary look. I haven't used the camera yet so I can't say if there's a way to embed the color profile and settings within the file, but that would make sense. It's not always desired -- certainly in the case of the Alexa, they routinely shoot Log-C ProRes 444 files there and those files are given a temp look for dailies & editing, then the same files are conformed and pushed through final color and post.

In camera you can setup your stream with a Look, Color Space, Gamma Space, and 3D LUT if you'd like. My two big tests early on where DRAGONcolor2/REDgamma4 and DRAGONcolor2/REDlogFilm with and without 3D LUTs. Just depends on what you want to do. I think we'll be seeing some of these cameras in very ENG situations where pushing out a piping hot burnt in gamma and look file ready to air is going to happen. I'm with Marc for general workflow though. Some sort of Color Space and REDlogFilm is pretty handy.

Phil, do you know where the in-camera menu to "setup your stream with a Look, Color Space, Gamma Space, and 3D LUT" is located?

Menu>Settings>Look>Look Config

i think where it will really excel is Log for the raw and LUT/look with custom colors for the dailies/offline/maybe masters even if they dont want raw. it will def come in handy for sure, cuz we can replicate the alexa workflow everyone can't stop proresing about.... I'm not even sure why Arri made the XT the ways producers talk about prores and cost savings its like the second coming to them! but then they edit in avid and can't stand AMA so at least i still land a job here and there :)

+1 on RedGamma3!
