Unless we named our cameras with numbers or a few random letters someone will always object. If we went sexy like you suggest... that would piss off a whole different group.

And we are not alone. Arri and their ""hooker name" camera, Blackmagic with their "Ursla" name Sony with their self nick-named "EVIL camera" ( that's real btw www.sony.com/evilmovie the name stuck after Evil Dead) etc. etc. Unless you name your stuff random numbers and or letters there is someone that will always be offended. We had complaints about names of Epic, Dragon, and pretty much everything else.

Its just a name. It means alot to us for positive reasons and not in any negative ways that people assume.

I understand the actual security issues some people have and I think we have addressed that accordingly.

You have addressed the security issue perfectly. Thanks

My preferred option has always been for security personnel to come equipped with a sense of humor, and enough common sense, to realize that no terrorist would stamp bomb or weapon on an actual bomb or weapon. Sadly, there are a lot of us with harrowing stories about what can happen when you find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time with some idiot…

Giving buyers the option to get a "stealth" version without such terms stamped in large text on the camera is a much appreciated accommodation. Thanx Jarred and the RedTeam.

Cheers - #19

We are professionals. We should offer equal respect to other professionals in the security business and expect them to do their due diligence without regard to what we might consider "common sense", or because of 'hey, we look alike' relatability, sense of humor, familiarity with our work/equipment/brand etc etc etc.

I like STEALTH, glad RED is doing that. I think this thread continues because some hope and desire that RED recognizes that these issues are real. They are tangible to many even if these issues are of no relevance to those who travel first class with a ton of other crew members and celebrities and carry whatever they hell they want called whatever the hell its called.

I don't think Jarred and I would be treated the same way ever in certain situations I can imagine. That is a fact I live with.

If RED wants customers only of a certain type, of course, that is RED's prerogative. But I'd argue that's a parochial view for such a revolutionary company. Nor do I believe this is even remotely true.

So I wish people would just recognize this and stop rehashing the same old tired arguments trying to shut down this avenue we have to voice our concerns directly to RED. If this issue doesn't matter to you, then why bother? Its not like any of us here have the ability to twist RED's arms for heaven's sake. Don't think anyone at RED is looking for, or needs anyone's help on this.

Yes. Nikhil, I agree, but it seems that the stealth option is the answer to the concerns of the customers who have had the place to voice their feelings and concerns.

At the time of your order, check the stealth box. It's a RED camera.

I'm not sure what more people want out of RED at this point.

I was never a fan of the name but the inclusion of the stealth option is one of many, many examples of how rarely open and community orientated Red are. Hats off, Jarred.

Just a rant, David. Not directed at anyone or anything in particular. Just had to get it out of my system.

What more do people want? I don't know. But I can take a guess from what I'm reading on this thread.

Yes, STEALTH addresses the immediate concern. But this thread is the only place that harbors 'counter' (read: rebellious) opinions to those held by RED leaders. RED, I hope, will value that. Surrounding themselves with like-minded people is soothing, but then, they'd miss out on what's being said in this thread.

The posters are not interested in changing the opinions of *other* RED customers who agree wholeheartedly with the naming, the military styling, etc., but are, IMHO, trying to reach the RED leadership and perhaps even (dare I say this) asking for a culture-shift at RED.

Maybe that's too much to ask. Maybe that's just not RED's culture and will never be. But all rebels have to learn to govern in the end if they are going to matter in a way that matters.

My current script is a sci-fi/fantasy merge and is all about kings/presidents/rebels and war. I'm not even making that up. So all this is certainly on my mind creatively. I just didn't think it'd play out in my equipment domain as well. Which is kind of a blast! ;)

Jarred, so sad we are in this current times where its all extremes, extremes in religion, in politics, ironically the world has more freedom than in the previous 6,000 years because of the internet, anyone can claim anything a sin or a perversion but they are watching! so anyways, the only thing i'd argue about GOT that they go back to the quality from season 1, they weren't afraid of explicit sex (its HBO! not NBC), they didn't want to please anyone corporate world or audience) it was an awesome interpretation of the books, off topic, I know... but On the subject of names for the newest member of the Red Family, Id buy it even if they name it "poop" haha regardless of a name, we love Red.

So, if I am to understand the conversation, the origin of the name has now been revealed... the Vs in Vista Vision combine to form what looks like a w - VV So, quite naturally, the name they settled on was VVeapon.

Huh?

If the origin of the name is, indeed, Vista Vision, then Weapon seems that much more inappropriate. To me, Vista Vision implies a thoughtful peaceful view on to the horizon, a "vision-ary" view of the world. Soft, romantic, wistful. Someone tell me how Weapon best represents VistaVision except for the coincidence of the lettering, which in itself took a bit of a torturous route to get to a W.

Oh, well. There is stealth.

I don't think so either. I'll be convinced by a second statement from Jarred but his "ding ding ding" remark to me doesn't carry that much weight at the moment as to that this was their reason or the origin for the name. It could also be that he just liked the comparison. To me I dont have anything against the name, but I'm curious :)

I agree. It's all good and it all is read and hear and is this case, reacted too with concrete action. Anyone who posted in this thread knows it's a pretty direct line to the people who can affect the change. Reduser wouldn't be rdeuser without this exchange.

No matter what side you fall on, you gotta like that, I do.

Ah yes. These things happened in the renaissance as well. Imagine Sandro Botticelli actually burning his paintings in the street to appease the moralists (savaronola). I've walked past the spot. In the end they hung and then burned Savaronola, who had ordered the burning of art in the first place, in front of city hall.

Lots to talk about on this subject, but this is not really the place.

This topic seems overdone.
Thoughts have been expressed, poll is pretty clear, Red reacted with a reasonable compromise.
Further seems like pushing it with no particular beneficial purpose.

Not really.
Chains evolved into the invisible realm.

The creative and the destructive, we all play it out. Sandro turned love of Simonetta into time transcendent art. Savaronola turned fear of beauty- Simonetta- into misery. Our daily choice.

Well, what i mean by this is that anyone can forbid something but hardly anyone can stop anything from happening on the virtual realm, if someone really cares about something to be on the www there are millions of ways to have it available, and information is no longer power to anyone really because its available to anyone who cares to seek.

I don't feel as if it is overdone, i like to hear what everyone has to say! I think of opinions the same way i think of colors, they all exist and are valid, you can choose to ignore or saturate on the ones you like.
