It's a RED camera
with a Dragon sensor
in the Weapon body style.

I imagine "stealth" version is a weapon body style without the word weapon engraved on the mag reader on the operator side of the camera.

In this case the full official name might be:

RED Weapon Dragon Digital Cinema Camera

The 3rd body style officially released by RED.

The body styles are:
RED One - M then MX sensor
RED EPIC - MX the dragon sensor
RED Weapon (weapon stealth) Dragon then (yet to be named VV or vista vision sized sensor)

It's a RED camera

I imagine "stealth" version is a weapon body style without the word weapon engraved on the mag reader on the operator side of the camera.

The current video shows RED DRAGON on the new side module. No "WEAPON". Weapon was visible on earlier images but seems to have been dropped.

I praying they make a Ferrari Edition!

However, you'll notice that the poll right now is about 50/50 with the majority not caring or liking the name.

But consider this - after having patiently waited through RED's non-announcement phase for that new camera/body to come along that addresses a slew of pain points built up over time, what do we end up with?

An evenly divided us-vs-them situation? Over a freakin' name? Congratulations to RED's marketing/branding department, I guess.

"Stealth" came about BECAUSE of the "49% and steadily diminishing minority" who voiced their objections, let's not forget that. It did not happen for any other reason. Now, asking that minority to "shut up" cos they have "Stealth" is a bit impolite, no? ;)

I suppose I'll be among the five people ordering the Stealth. That's assuming none of the necessary as-yet-unrevealed accessories have the same branding issue. Part of the reason I keep coming back and hammering on this is hoping-against-hope that if there's a chance it may sway the branding for the as-yet-unrevealed accessories, then it'd be worth it. (EDIT: read that as - I'm trying to protect my small investment of money and my invaluable investment of my own time in this platform)

None of what I post is to convince those who carry a M16 into a Target or Walmart that "Weapon" is not a great model name. Its to present a viewpoint to RED that they consider this for any upcoming accessories as well.

This thread is dead, dead, dead. Because most of us have already gone into a wait-and-watch mode instead of a can't-wait-for-this-camera mode. RED will still sell tons of cameras like pancakes perhaps, but it has hurt itself a bit here by not realizing its a brand that has gone global and become way broader than perhaps it ever thought it'd be.

Screw call-outs are not going anywhere. Would love to not need them, but unfortunately you all just love putting the wrong size bolts into holes... it used to be our #1 warranty repair... by a large margin. Since we started using callouts, that reduced that tremendously. Just be happy we don't call out the length as well :)

So that one is because of you... not us.

Hilarious. I love the hole labels. I wish every screw hole in the world was labeled. There's one size that's basically the same in metric or imperial, but the tiniest tiniest bit off. It's a huge headache trying to figure out what size screw to get for it.

Not trying to be a smart-ass, just curious.

Why is it that people who aren't careful enough to begin with when they are bolting something onto a 10-50K camera are seemingly better at it if they can read which size of screw they would need to use? Because they won't be able to tell the screws apart when the screws themselves aren't labeled.

That was my point earlier - unless you label the screws...what`s the point?

I travel with photography equipment a lot throughout the middle east, and I am really worried about the extra bit of hassle I will get at airports with the name "WEAPON" printed on my equipment. The name is awesome, but I worry about my equipment.

I share Zeb's expressive statement here.

The tool, the bolts, and even the hole could be the give away here if a person doesn't just jam it in there.

Having quick reference on the camera is very, very useful for a lot of reasons.

1st AC - "Hey! What size does it take?!"

2nd AC - "M3 dudebroman!"

1st AC - "What is this on my Sidewinder?!"

2nd AC - "They had ice cream at crafy. There was no spoon. Only Sidewinder."

Speaking of wrong size screws, both my rear module adapter and top plate were supplied from factory with the screws that were too long.
Then, I get an invoice for the damage during my Dragon upgrade. The fee finally got waived after my BS admitted they used the wrong screws...... So yeah, screw labels could come handy. Or maybe color coded screws.

Get the Sidewinder tool. You can test screw sizes in the handle.

I'm not the only one with a damaged Dragon during travelling ?

Just to share my thought on the name.

While awesome in terms of "shoot". The name Weapon is difficult, not because of what it means, but in terms of pronounciation. I think Latin langages people will have trouble saying it. I mean non-english fluent latin people.
Red One, Scarlet, Epic, Dragon, Amira, Alexa, Varicam... In France, these are names easily spoken as they phonetically are nearly the same. Weapon not so much. We would write it "ouéponne" and it sure has less glamour.

If only my screws were labelled then I`d know which hole to put them in. 8-)

Actually have less of a problem with the screw definitions.

heh, that reminds me of how awesome the sidewinder tool is.

It has various screw holes and callouts on the side.
Helps identify a screw and can hold a few temporarily.
