So, when the medium format Red finally arrives, will they call it the M-Fo?

"Bunker Buster" would be my guess. Cause it plows through the competition and keeps on going.

At what number of responses do the results become statistically representative of all potential owners? Does anyone know about statistics?
Considering the population of 57,000 registered people on the forum, at 334 the margin of error is 5.35%
for under 5%, 382 votes are needed. Right now, this is the result range:

keep it: 12.61%-23.31%
Change it: 58.72%-69.42%
Dont care: 12.61%-23.31%

So, even in the worst case scenario, still more than ½ of the Redusers want actively a name change.

And as for statistics, during elections, the polls are taken from 1,000 people out of potential 200 million voters. That's one in 200.000
here we are about one in 170 people. So that's a statistically significant amount.

We need a random sample. There may be a bias. Will all those that really don't care about the name participate? People more interested in changing the name would participate which is why I believe the results are what they are.

I have not voted but I really liked the fantasy thing with dragon. But i have no bigger issue with the weapon since i already put a shotgun to the face on clients on regular basis. Hope we get to here more specs before nab thoe. Also if if i were ti choose a name i would pic something in the fantisy theme or perheps the "Golden happy rainbow" it really have growed on me:)

It's definitely not a random sampling and it's definitely not "statistically significant" in the scientific sense. But that could just as easily mean that the real number if you did actually poll every RED user was substantially higher. Or it could be that it would be significantly lower. The only way to get a statistically significant poll that had real scientific weight behind it would be to hire a polling firm and spend lots of money on creating an unbiased sample set and then correcting for non-responses.

But it's also disingenuous to say that there are 50,000 active REDUsers. I've run a web forum before. Usually 10-20 of the online users were real people and 300-400 were bots at any given moment. Only 38% of registered REDUser members have even ever posted a comment.

Why I would put some faith though in this poll is that the numbers have remained pretty static throughout its life. I suspect of the sample group "People who are on reduser and respond to polls like this" you can confidently say this accurately reflects that demographic. And I would say "People who are on reduser and respond to polls" if anything skews towards people who are far more supportive of RED than your average RED owner and far more supportive of RED in general than your average crew member. So I think you would b ehard pressed to find a demographic that is more friendly to the name.

This poll reminds me of the old saw... Figures lie and liars figure.

Aside to Uncle G... this is not a personal attack as I quoted no one... just remembering an old saying. '-)

So Don't Taze me bro!

Some people just won't give up on the attacks - calling people liars. But, of course, this comment isn't directed at anyone or any particular side of the argument in particular. Oh, no.

Whats significant for me is the BREADTH of users posting with concerns. I see what can be best described as loyal members, many solid contributors to reduser and mature thoughtful producers contributing to the voice against the name. The poll is surprisingly high but the particular redusers I see posting against the name are, in a way, more surprising than even the poll numbers.

Terry, it's just an old saying that points out that you can make figures say anything you want them to... just as the way political polls can slant the results by the way they word their questions. I think your suggesting I/someone is calling people liars is sort of a generalized personal attack within itself.

Grasping at straws.
The trend this poll is displaying is pretty clear.
Do you seriously expect the figures to reverse if the questions were worded differently?
Would you word them with double negatives to achieve your goal?

If this were election poll results, the state would already be calling a winner.

Having said that, I don't think that this poll has any significance because the name will probably stay.
I just hope that Red looks at this as a serious sign.
A lot of people claim that the military theme marketing brought Red to where it is today.
I would argue that we don't know how much further Red would have gotten if it let the camera speak for itself instead of tarnishing it with bad boy posturing that made many overlook the quality of the product.
Red cameras are what launched the war on establishment, it's the quality of the image, its accessibility to mortals and the generous upgrade program that did it. It doesn't need embellishment. It's bad ass all on its own.

Just my 2 dinars.

Cheers,

Milan

Well said!

I think RED got where they are today in spite of that. They got where they are because they released cameras that they fine tuned and turned fantastic and keep fine tuning and keep making better.
