How individuals judge the publicity is exactly the problem.

Look at this publicity however you wish but its a big stretch to spin the off reduser ridicule in a positive way.
Donald, didn't you say you own not one but TWO Hummers? Not saying everyone feels this way but many of the people I know ridicule Humvee owners as perhaps being... insecure?

Just sayin' be consistent in that you do not throw ridicule around loosely when it could boomerang back at you. And maybe it best to let some of the others who actually live their convictions to take the lead in the opposition.

Also, would just like to say as my pre-banned statement that I forgive my executioner. "-)

...

For kicks, try to think about the word "Weapon" beyond the testosterone charged, needlessly aggressive or dumbness many of you think it represents. Despite your misgivings, how might the name Weapon be a positive thing?

...

Brian - I think that is the point. How many people actually DO first think of the word "weapon" in a context that ISN'T this way? This discussion is an example.

For those that think that any PR is good PR, I suppose this is an example of "good marketing." I don't fall into that category and, the way I see it, every time the term Weapon is mentioned as a RED camera, the brand will suffer a little. Will it kill the company? Absolutely not. RED is all about innovation, paradigm disruption and great technology. That has, and will continue to, trump it's macho brand image.

To anyone who says we souldn't bother discussing this because it has been decided. My earlier response to that is still relevant. Perhaps this name issue is a done deal (probably, it is). But, because RED does listen to its customers, this discussion might enlighten future decisions of this type.

Nothing is boomeranging back. Please, stop getting personal.

You seem to enjoy taking things too far.

Elsie... Chill.... now... :)
You kinda ask for this. But gee, it's unnecessary... :)

Freezer for a week unless u chill.
Is that clear?

:)

I'm reading you Lima Charlie Uncle G. '-)

Maybe we should just call it "The Camera Which Shall Not Be Named."

Maybe just RED "Camera" would be the ultimate name? Sort of a presumption of the final and only one needed.

I still would like it to be called RED L-D-R in honor of Jim, our RED L__D_R

Definitely echoing others concerns about travel issues. I regularly deal with airport security in far off places that have never seen anything resembling an RED Epic camera. Security that is used to seeing sleek, curvy consumer cameras and dSLRs. Even ENG camera and camcorders are recognizable, but my Epic always brings a lot of extra scrutiny.

Don't get me wrong, I love the design and form factor of the RED cameras, but even down to the fonts they use on their products, it already can look a little like military hardware. Stamping the word 'Weapon' on it is not going to make life easier for those of us filmmakers that make their living travelling. This is a very legitimate concern. At the very least, I hope if they decide to keep the name, they will at least refrain from putting it on the camera body.

That's kinda what I was getting at, not the name itself, but the premise.
People in Asia may feel slighted. '-)

But then again... they have Dragon.

I also regularly have fun (and calculate 15-30 minutes extra) to get through security and explain all the parts.

Noone have ever bothered checking the name of the camera, though.
