  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED WEAPON DIMENSIONAL DRAWINGS

Bjorn, It was Phil that stated the OLPFs would work with weapon, not Brent or Jared. Don't believe everything you read.

OLPFs will work with Weapon. Just confirmed in person.

Since they are smartly changing the mounting system how could the old ones possibly work?
Surprising there is no trade in program since the glass is the same in a new plastic holder.

Does the 8k upgrade cost include a new olpf or we have to buy new ones again at the end of the year too?

Bjorn, as I stated earlier, the compatabilty on the product detail pages clearly shows the current a la carte OLPFs are only SCARLET and EPIC compataible. It is right above ADD TO CART, so kinda right there. Plus, in description, each OLPF has a note along the lines of:

NOTE: The DSMC Low Light Optimized OLPF is ONLY compatible with EPIC DRAGON® and SCARLET DRAGON® cameras.

Don't know much more we can do on that...

Brent,

Would the existing motion mount be 8k compatible?

AJ

AJ, the existing motion mount can indeed be mounted on the 8K WEAPON. But the opening on the mount itself will obviously not as large as a dedicated 8K mount.

Christopher, AFAIK, RED has never publicly confirmed or denied that the OLPF glass will be the same from EPIC/SCARLET DRAGON to WEAPON. As of now, there is no upgrade/trade-in program as far as OLPFs are concerned from EPIC/SCARLET DRAGON to WEAPON 6K to WEAPON 8K.

+1 for LDS support for the new PL magnesium mount for CF weapon, its annoying to have to use an ARRI UMC just to be able to record lens metrics when the camera should be doing it.

Kemalettin, you can cut them slack it was only since 2009, not 2008, that Jannard promised it....
That side handle switch finally does something 6 years later, so who knows.

EPIC-X FEATURES
....
Independent Stills and Motion Modes (both record full resolution REDCODE RAW)
LDS and /i Data enabled PL Mount

what about new pl mount that Jarred shared ? is it anothe version or new standart? Brent do you know people waiting for LDS suppport since 2008 ? its been almost 8 years.

Brent, can you comment on the standard Canon mount opening and 8k? At least I have the $5k credit. :) Though most of that will go to the new 7" LCD.

When I meet with our engineers and Jarred next week, I can ask. With testing the 8K, focus has really been using the 8K PL mount to date. Not to much cross-pollination...

Thank you Brent, I really appreciate you taking the time to find out for us. Given FF35 still lenses, I can envision the Canon mount, and Nikon, being pretty popular on the 8k sensor. They don't necessarily have the optimum mechanics for cinema work, but they are designed to cover larger sensors than cinema glass.

If a new Canon mount is required, I do hope it is available the day the 8k ships. :)

Any news you can share on this? Working on my budget now and would like to know if I need to make room for a new Canon mount.

When Chris shot the latest Eminem video with the 8k sensor, and the Canon lens, was it using a new Canon mount?
