  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED WEAPON DIMENSIONAL DRAWINGS

Hi Jarred,

Thanks and indeed i was one of those people requesting this data.
Would it be possible to get a solid model ? of this outside shape only - no proprietary bits needed of course.
.step .iges - almost anything !
There are loads of missing dimensions if you are trying to make something fit really precisely and it would be really extremely helpful !

Thanks,
+Leonard.

I was wondering about that as well. I only hope that our new changeable OPLF's are still useable on what seems like a new one twist and your done setup.
Anything info on this?????

Weapon OLPFs are different and they also also have mechanical indicators to tell the camera which OLPF is in the camera.

My understanding is that the glass dimensions remain the same however, so for example, as a third party supplier I'm expecting to be able to offer a mechanism to send in a KipperTie Epic style OLPF and have us rehouse in a Weapon type OLPF frame, to save buying all over again.

If you can find where that was stated by Jarred or I, PM me a link, as I am 99.99% sure it was not. 0.01% is my safety net as we were pretty tired posting the night before NAB, ha.

To clarify, EPIC/SCARLET OLPFs are not compatible with WEAPON. It is clearly stated on RED.com that they are only compatible with EPIC and SCARLET. And for monochrome, only EPIC.

As Mark said - and the drawings indicate - the OLPF (glass and tray) are not mechincally compatible with WEAPON as they have smart OLPF type detection plus a new locking mechanism (replacing the screws). At this time, there is no "trade-in" program and, no, the glass from an EPIC/SCARLET one cannot be re-housed in a WEAPON tray and work with WEAPON.

What if any plans at this time are there when the sensor goes 8K? Will there be a interchangeable 8K OPLF filter system or is it the same system just new or larger OPLF tray and glass that will fit in the present sensor chamber as seen now?

Love this, and loving your OLPF's (images soon) this is really great if it can be done, even so most likely I'll be one of those buying new, and including all current OLPF's on the Epic sale when that time comes.

Russ, same basic premise of a system, yes. But different dimensions so cannot put 6K OLPF tray in 8K camera and vice versa.

To bad there isn't a one stop shopping system where the swappable OPLF system is as large as the 8K sensor would be and still fits over the 6K Dragon setup until its time. Kind of over sized at first but doesn't need to be changed later. I know that would be a bunch of head ache with chamber size and many other issues I have no idea about.
Thanks for the info Brent. Looking forward to the ride in to the future.

That night of NAB i ordered a AC adapter, a weapon camera and a IRpass olpf... I got the AC adapter and OLPF sent to me, but still ofcourse waiting for the camera, did not know that the olpf would not fit weapon... dont have an epic to use it with, guess I need to sell it.

So anyone interested in an "IRPass Dragon OLPF" ?

Think that red should probably been a bit more informative on this point... Think there is more people then me that sits and collects olpf's and are thinking that they will be able to use them with the next generation same sensor camera aswell...

Bjorn, as I stated earlier, the compatabilty on the product detail pages clearly shows the current a la carte OLPFs are only SCARLET and EPIC compataible. It is right above ADD TO CART, so kinda right there. Plus, in description, each OLPF has a note along the lines of:

NOTE: The DSMC Low Light Optimized OLPF is ONLY compatible with EPIC DRAGON® and SCARLET DRAGON® cameras.

Don't know much more we can do on that...

For $195 for a OLPF, that has to be around cost with no margin ... it's one of the least expensive changes to make on my camera that has a large impact. OLPF is least thing on my worry list for weapon. Really with Christopher Probst's testing on his latest music video, I pretty much have no worries on Weapon. I'm not really even worried when I'll get mine, I know you guys are working as hard as possible and the test versions are going to the right people (so i'll get the benefits of all that testing when i get my camera).
