Anyone do a Red Vs Film test yet or are we the first?

My partner was lighting a Best Buy commercial and brought his Red along, the Director and producer OK'd letting us duplicate the shots on the Red. We will be going to the post house tomorrow sunday the 2nd to see the results! I will keep you posted!

Heheh, I can think of at least a dozen that have taken place.

I don't think there were that many shoots where the same action was shot on 35 mm as well as on RED. This could be a very interesting comparison.

...but very few publicly available ones where people posted:

1. a 2K DPX / Cineon sequence of the film scan (plus details of film stock, lens, film scanning system used, etc)

alongside

2. the .R3D file of the Red footage (plus details of Red build number, lens, etc).

Do that and I think many thankful Redusers in LA will buy you beers! Even if the film footage looks better. Seriously.

We all have our own opinions but would really appreciate it if more people took the time to do tests like that. It would add to the knowledge pool in a very positive way.

I helped out on a RED vs 35mm test with Jim Van Dijk and Greg Middleton here in Vancouver about a week ago. The results will be shown (projected) at Digital Film Central this coming Friday but it's invite only. We used the RED 18-50mm and the Cooke S4's to test between the two cameras in a number of different indoor/outdoor situations. Should be interesting to see.

We used Jim Van Dijk's RED and my Arri 35-3 camera.

Update: The screening was great. It really showed how high quality RED footage is, even compared to 35mm. Beautiful stuff.

Norm, were you using both lenses interchangibly, or only the Red 18-50mm on the Red vs the Arri using only Cooke S4s?

Very well said G-babymogul

Let's not change history, Stephen.

Claudio overreacted. Those of us who thanked him and were interested about the results far outweighed the fanboys.

Claudio did not over react. He got raked over the coals by a couple Hacks on here that don't hardly know the first thing about motion picture production. Claudio had nothing to prove and left. many other top level DP's have heard about what happened and don't visit here because of that.

There are multiple tests and comparison footage out there. I get a lot of it in emails with links and requests not to put any of it forward to reduser. Members here on reduser have no idea how much great information has been intentionally not reported or shown here because of those couple of fanboy hacks. It is a great loss to the reduser community.

I'm surprised that Stephen would comment about posters getting trashed and not wanting to post... c.com

QFTMFT.

Information is great, opinions are like @ss^^%les. The fanboy-ism has clouded rational judgment by a LOT of people on this site.

Driving away industry DPs with heavy-iron skill sets will do nothing to make this community great.

What happened with Claudio was very unfortunate and personal apologies for the boards reaction to his posts were sent. Losing top DPs from posting is low on our list.

why is this in the footage section with no footage? can we all agree to only have links to footage in the first post of every thread in this section...?

Ray was jumping the gun on the judging! may be a bit bias? Lets wait until we see the footage, eh!

We were suppose to be able to go to the post house today but never got the call, so we just wait by the phone with our 4K DPX files.

PS How the heck do you imbed images here??? This works for me on ebay!

Alright just figured it out!

DuArt in NYC has film out of RED clips and i believe some shots compared to 35mm.
i think you give them a call to make arrangement to view it ( they want butts in the seats) ....

if 7 of us did individual film out Red test we would have 7 different results ...
and we'd also have 7 slightly different results if we shot 35mm ASA 250 film test ...
