RED USERS UNDER ATTACK in GEORGIA

I'm not sure I understand the source of the conflict- There's a section of Georgia sympathetic to Russia that hoped to separate so the Russians invaded to take that area? Or do they plan to invade the entire country?

As for Russian attitude, I met a group of students from Moscow last week and spent several days discussing/hanging out-- The absolutely hated what they had encountered in the US... Which in large part was just a difference in cultures. But- yes, they agreed that its their right to go into other nations as they see fit. I was shocked, until they pointed out that is more or less what the US has done.

Yes, that is exactly what they intend to do. First Georgia, next Ukraine. COUNT on it.

"Those who forget history...."

Except when we invade a country, amazingly enough people end up with MORE freedom, not less.

Yes the whole thing is definitely a warning on the addres of Ukraine.
Russia breaks international law with this assault, which is an intervention on an internal conflict of another country: Georgia.

By the way very two-faced if you remember yourself what's going on in Chechenia...

That was a great example about Greeks, I agree, just bacuse some minority nationals move to one part of the country, it surely does not mean that that part of the country has to be independent, especially in a country like a Greece and Georgia, with more than 25 centuries of history. but it does not matter, any international border has to be respected.

on the other hand Chechnia was mentioned here. So I want to point out several things. Chechnia is one of caucasian nations, has has been there, unlike S.Ossetians have been settled on Georgian territory not so far away in past, by stalin. So when chechnia wanted independence, they really had a right for it, from the historycal stand point, but when chechnia started a campaign for freedom, Russia have send there punishment army and this is what I call genocide, I do not exactly know but I think more than 60% of men were killed, no matter the age. Chechnians are very brave people, very brave, like Georgians, and unlike russians, and they fought back, even 12 year old boys, woman of all ages had guns, and they knew they would die, but they knew they would die anyway, so they had to do as much harm as they could. Russia have had tremendouse losses there. and of course they lost anyways but this is not main. So if historically existed nation in caucasus wanted to be free, 100% of them wanted freedom, and russia did not give them this freedom, and killed the whole nation, why is now russia protecting nation, who has their own home on Russian territory, and they have been settled in Georgia no more than 100 years ago, why russia says that S.Ossetians have the right for freedom if they want so? Just because Russia gave them russian passports 5 years ago does not make them russian citizens, and excuse that russia is protecting russian citizens is not right as well.

And the bottom line is, no matter what the history, international border of Georgia includes S.Ossetian territory so RESPECT IT.

just wanted to tell you that all is over now. Troops have left, suddenly they left, nobody knows why. Remember the movie WAR OF THE WORLDS, when suddenly all stops, (because of virus) it was exactly like, that, all the people in the city were getting ready for the attack, with forks and knives, even some woman, 15 year old boys, some hunting guns, irons, all the means to protect, and they left. :*)

Thanks everybody for support. :*)

So whats up with RED news? any improvement in the workflow? I did not follow for last week? Was Adobe released? did I miss anything?

Levan, good a seize fire came about, been feeling for you.

This certainly has been a thought provoking incident.

An older (now) retired politician, who is very well thought of amongst all parties in Norway (especially after he retired) Kåre Willoch came out yesterday and spoke of how his concerns over Russias current path (concidering reclaiming their power from the cold war days), and said Norway needed to rethink it´s millitary and the way it should work in the future....

It´s funny how the world works, yesterday I thought terrorism was the worst thing, now it might look like a ghost of the cold war is waking again - Not a good thing.

Norway has a border with russia, and a long long lasting negotian/dispute over the rights to fishing/oil in the north, and Russia never liked Norway beeing in (technical) control over svalbard (an Island to the north of Norway)

All the best!

Great thread and most informative and nice to hear from those that are there rather then 2nd hand media reports.

I'm hoping as we all are that the recently announced cease fire will hold and all will go back to "normal" soon.

Keep us informed. The discussion here shows many of us that those from both sides still have some love and respect for each other despite the sins of their governments. Reminds us always never to confuse the people with those that rule.

Now its getting stable and calm. Only problem now is that Russian and Ossetian military groups, sometimes come out to Georgian villages and burn houses and arrest some civilians, take them who knows where. It is a hard situation, because it is a cease fire now, and if we try to protect Georgian villages, russia might attack again, and there is no way we can prove that it was their military groups behaving unexpectable. they have to be punished.

One more thing I want to say, if any of you knows Georgian people, you would know that we are very kind, polite, and hospital nation. There is very little agression in our people in any aspect, and this is a peacful yet brave nation. For all my life I have been hearing that Terror is Error, and I always have thought that terrorist are very bad. I could never understand how someone could attack twins, or bomb an embassy, or anything like that. We always blame terrorists, but now I have different thinking, we have to blame the countries who make people terrorist. Honestly saying if Russian troops entered Tbilisi, they would occupy us, I would devote my whole life to make russian nation pain. I know it would not change the world, I know it would not destroy russia, but I would do anything I could to harm them. Now I know, that you think about terror when you can do nothing else, when your wife, sister or mother is insulted, when you children are scared, when you are not respected, and mainly when you can do nothing about it, because they are more powerful, then you know that if you are man, you have to fight back, and if you do not have planes to bomb their capital, you have something that we call terror, which is error, but not from the terrorists side. I never thought that any Georgian would ever think about it, but I almost did. You can not imagine the night when russian tanks were heading to capital, never say you can imagine it, children were asking us, what will happen, would we protect them, and it was horrible when we could not promise them they would be safe. When you know there is nothing you can do to protect your loved one, your family, this is so devastating, I have never had such a feeling. I run a company in Georgia, I have never been to army, I have no idea about how to fight, I live a different life, but for last week, for the day when they were attacking, I was so mobilized yet so desperate, because I say that 12 year old boys were getting ready to fight back, would it make sense?! no, because they were so many forces on our land you can never imagine, and I knew that if they would enter capital, everyone would fight until the last drop of the blood, that the way Georgians are, but I also knew that russian army had enough troops to empty our drops, they did not care. Russian army would also have tremendous losses, they would die in hundreds of thousands, but we would not exist. Could I run? yes we could go to armenia, azerbaijan, but nobody did, maybe only 0.1% did, but everybody was prepared, I saw mothers of 15 year old boys who said that they would never hide their children, imagine a mother that tells his child to fight. It was very sad 4 - 5 hours. Maybe russia saw that they would have a huge resistance and this is why they stopped, maybe world have supported us that night, I do not know, but I believe GOD was on our side, because we were right, and no matter what russian powerful propaganda has to say, they have not started this to protect peace, they wanted to destroy us finally.

once again, I want to apologize that I have started this thread here, but as someone have mentioned, this is a community I have been part of for 2 years, and I wanted you all to know the truth. and thank for supporting me.

PEACE

Yesterday a Dutch cameraman died in Georgia by an exploding bomb. Our channels were filled with that news.

Levan I have nothing wise to say about all this, other than that I wish to express my concern and wish you all the best. I hope this misery will end quickly. Take care.

SAD - all I can say :*(

The media says Russia is attacking a US ally in Iraq. Iraq is pretty much next door to Georgia. I smell a new cold war brewing...at least I hope it stays cold.

On a global scale, that's probably the Russian answer to the separation of Kosovo from Serbia.

The big chessboard...

Who is right and who is wrong?

Only God knows.

But one thing's for sure:

Karma is a bitch.

There's no logic in politics, it's utter crap. And we Balkanians know that best.

Let's hope the greater idea that the EU is can remove all these idiocies from our lives.

Eventually it will... But it will add other stupid things... like the euro, that make our life miserable, the currency transition was not planned well and everything costs quad now of what it was five years ago... its the price we have to pay to live in peace...

Yes it is a bitch, as I said in the past... we ware spreading winds and now we will gather tornado's...

And its not only Kosovo... its the middle east and the Palestinians... Africa and small countries in suppression... it getting very complex.

Considering that Tbilisi is being bombed right now and it isn't really all that close to South Ossetia, this makes me thing that this is more than just a war about the independence of a small area of Georgia.

Nonsense... What media says that?

Georgia allied with the US in Iraq. The media says Russia is attacking Georgia. It doesn't really matter. As long as the bombs stop dropping and people can move on peacefully with their lives.

Evangelos, I think it WAS planned well... but not towards people needs.

Congratulations, Red-cam. You are classic victim of information war.
