  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red upgrade program

Eh? Connectors were never part of the change. The audio board is replaced and the cables are swapped out, but not to standard XLR. They're still mini's.

I am quoting from the upgrade note:
"Swapping RED mini-XLR to XLR adaptor cables that you have for your RED ONE. To take advantage of the upgraded performance of the new audio board, we will have to swap your current mini-XLR to XLR adaptor cable(s) with new mini-XLR to mini-XLR cables and mini-XLR to XLR adaptors. Using the prior cables will result in subpar audio performance."

I guess the changed them in accordance I didn't take a look yet.

When you send your camera in, you should also send in the mini-XLR to XLR adapters you have and RED will exchanges those with new ones. The old ones don't work properly with the new audio board. The ports on the camera are still mini-XLR.

Jeff, when you say they "don't work properly" what does that mean... ?
Just got my camera back from upgrade this morning, and found I inadvertantly hadn't included the old audio cables :banghead:... and I have to grab reference sound this week so no time to get the new ones from Red...
I've emailed Red, but I guess its still Sunday in the US...

that quote doesn't say anything about changing the ports,it says they're swapping cables.

I have never said they changed the ports at the camera. They change the cables from mini and reg. xlr to mini and mini xlr.
Now what is the idea of having a mini to mini? Don't you end up with a cable which is the same as what you have on the body? a mini female?

yes, indeed. you have a mini/mini cable but ALSO a mini/regular adapter which plugs into the female mini and give you a female regular.

I'm about to send my camera to Pinewood studios for upgrade; should I also send in my 18-50 lens for "updating firmware" - is it a firmware in the lens?
