As we've already learned that Epic or Scarlet brain(s) can't get enough bandwidth to provide simultaneous display for LCD and EVF

I would like to know if RED by themselves or any third party Epic/Scarlet accessory vendor is working on simple accessory that's the following:

A Splitter for Epic/Scarlet RED TOUCH 5.0" LCD display to RED PRO EVF.

And this sort of splitter could work something like this:

- Basically a splitter would have one input, two outputs and three cables.

- That means a splitter would have just one input that can be connected with a short cable

to Epic/Scarlet LCD/EVF in [P/N 790 - 0157 - EVF/LCD Cable - Right Angle to Right Angle - 6 in (0.15)]

and than both outs for each of display/monitor option that can power either LCD or EVF.

- And of course it will also include a single button that can make possible to switch between those two different display option outs.

- A simple and easy solution to have attached and to use both "native" display/monitor option on Epic or Scarlet.

That would be very nice and a must accessory with any Epic or Scarlet before I/O module is announced and also shipped.

What you think about this idea???!!!

ooo the golden question...

I asked Jim this some time back, He said it cannot be done due to different resolutions needed for both screen and Bomb when you plug in... The camera knows which is which and then sends the appropriate signal to each monitor.

Would be handy though... real handy if someone could work it out.

Mark,

I would say it's a must.

RED or somebody else third party could make just a little box that can have all that feature I already described above

and could also include a small electronic part that should recognize input resolution of both displays on switch of a (red) button.

If you just want a reference monitor why not use something like Wooden Camera's B box ? Connect a small marshall or other monitor while running your EVF from Epic and the lemo.

Sure, i'ts one more thing to add or two...monitor and b-box, but gets the job done and does what you want yes?

What about power? Can the camera even supply juice to both at the same time?

Maybe that splitter or b-box can be powered using

REDVOLT AA (80-PACK) provides multi-purpose power for devices requiring AA batteries.

Let's say you've dedicated HD-SDI or HDMI to AC to use

but also you want to use EVF only for your frame/focus/light,... judging and not to depend on DSMC Side Handle or REDMOTE to operate the camera.

Actually you want to use 5" RED Touch LCD to complete control over all EPIC or SCARLET menu functions.

That means you can position RED 5" TS LCD above, below or on a side of your (L/R) eye that you using to watch through EVF.

Simply to watch LCD or EVF after each other it's easy way and more convenient to use the camera menu controls that already have included actual image for any sort of handheld or studio shooting.

It's a kind of back and forth maneuvering between LCD and EVF because

you adjust controls using TC LCD where you already have the image and with a switch of button go to EVF and have a clean control of the image.

When you want to adjust the things again then just switch to LCD and do it again.

Again very easy and simple.

Also it's nothing against REDMOTE but with LCD and EVF you have included actual image that you supposed to be shooting and set of controls around to interact with adjustment.

Actually I think the idea is golden, and was one of my first thought when I got hands on with the "only one output for LCD/EVF) scenario.

But in reality, something like the SmallHD/TV-Logic with a repeater for the SDI is the more realistic option.
The Epics here have the SMallHD. And while we're at it, the cable pointing out over the lens is also not the best solution out there, but it was moved ther in a late stage, so there's probably some good reason for it in a 3D rig-logic.

You'll eventually have the redmote for control...

Cheers
