  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Every DP out there owning one of these magical RED cameras please continue to do great work, as a camera is only a tool. When Dragon is finally released we'll all have a newer tool for our creativity. Until then...let's serve chill pills to the masses.

Obsolescence Obsolete..
This really impressed me.. Thanks to the great idea
As a major production for 36 years, I do have buy a lot of other camera, last 2 years the F3, c300 and pay for extra software options

Now just RED. We are happy with our RED MX and RED Epic Xs, tthe SSD approach and the USB3 reader and the RED Rockets
and we look forwards for the Dargon, REDRay and RED Rocket X to come

Last week we do a concert shoot with 5 3D rigs, with Epic X, the freelance cameraman come to us and said, why do you RED Pro Prime instand of the Master X
At the end of the 2 days shoot, seeing the end result, they are impressed..
I hope there could be a new batch of RED Pro Priem II to come out
I kept 6 sets of RED Pro Prime, I do not think they are less better than the Ultra X sets that I have

As usual, Red is terribly late being first. It's like Usain Bolt apologising for being slow when the rest of the field is five paces back.

To be late today is not comparable as what is was at the beginning of the history. Today in fact, there is no stress for us, we have the best today's cameras in hand and we work with them, and we love them. We know that dragon will be fantastic. I don't mind to wait 1 or 2 or 3 monthes more. Take your time and do the good move, I will follow you.

From the set of House of Cards season 2 where we are successfully putting the Meizler Modules through their paces, I feel like I did 6 years ago in that warehouse in Lake Forest: "This is the start of something big, very big..."

Not much I could add personally that I haven't said before... but I wanted to post in this thread so I can get email updates when others post. '-)

I guess I could say that from a customer viewpoint, I endorse what you've done and how you've done it.

Going forward new things will be acknowledged by you when they are done, probably so the bitchin' little girls on the forum will get drowned out by the sudden burst of buzz instead of the steady humm, mostly pro but occasionally con, we are used to when announcements are made ahead of time. I preferred the old way but understand the change.

The good news is we have excellent product in hand to use while you carve out bigger tunnels into the way images are acquired and exhibited and with the innovation, send shafts of enlightenment into those tunnels. You're almost there now but one day you will control the surface and will walk in continual sunshine among the greats.

Jim,

Thanks for your hardwork, dedication and sticking to it. It's been a fun ride and I can't wait to get my hands on Dragon.

I don't mean this question out of disrespect. Due to my age i've only gotten to shoot film several times. But how long were film camera warranties? If we're hoping to have the same digital camera for 9-10 years why is a warranty only one year on a new camera? And 90 days on a new sensor that we upgrade to?

Seems a bit short. Not an insult, just curious.

RED is known for thinking big. Really big. Over the moon big. RED stirs the pot. We are also honest to a fault. Did I say we have no idea what we are doing? Everything changes including specs, pricing and delivery dates?

There are several sides to this…
[..]
So… are we late with Dragon? Yes. And Meizler. And REDRAY. And our Projector. Of course we are. This stuff is not easy. In fact it is groundbreaking and extremely difficult. Sometimes I want to strangle our engineers for their optimistic schedule. In the end… I embrace them for working on the hardest stuff… the impossible goals. They are the ones that brought you the RED ONE and the EPIC.

In my biggest hype-monster voice… I shout, we are just beginning. We have dreams that cannot be imagined. Once we deliver what you know about… there is more. Much more… only this time, we aren't going to tell you until they are done.

Jim

Looking forward to the next leaps. But following you since the very beginning tells me that you won't stand it to keep the mouth shut. Good luck trying  this is the hardest thing for you. Leading these developments is apparently an easier job for you

Cheers,
Axel

I hang my head because we are late... I hold my head high because we are leading the way.

Jim

Slow and steady wins the race. Then again, your turtle shells usually have rocket boosters...

Please Noooo....
Don't do it, do not go that route. Then you are just a camera manufacturer as anyone else, even if you would be a good one you are then just doing what the other guys does but hopefully a bit better.

My hope is that you open up more, take usage of peoples knowledge and let people contribute, I think that if you work behind closed doors you do not get half the distance.

And most important: What people think while you do something is irrelevant, It's what they think when you are done that matters...

Most cameras is 1080, some 4K, but Epic is 5k.. and RAW. I don't see RED being late on anything.
