Can't wait to get mine!

they look great, I am looking forward for the SSD ones as well as the SSD's for the RED

What about speeds then? What's the difference in speed between the Red CF readers and a Lexar FW800 at offloading a full 16GB card?
Paul

Congratulation mark.

Also curious about an SSD version of the Red Station ... is that
in the works?

Just got my RED STATION CF today. Very nice piece of kit.

I did some quick tests using the AJA System Test tool. Here are the results

Lexar FW800 CF Reader - Write: 51.1 MB/s Read: 72.8 MB/s
RED STATION CF (FW800) - Write: 51.1 MB/s Read: 79.1 MB/s
RED STATION CF (eSATA) - Write 52.5 MB/s Read: 86.2 MB/s

Tests were done on my 17" MacBook Pro using the Sonnet Tempo Sata Pro Express Card for eSata.

Sam, interesting numbers... What CF media were you using? What are the specs of the MBP and what else was connected?

Used a RED 16GB CF card, MacBook Pro is 5,2 model with 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 8GB of RAM. Running Snow Leopard 10.6.4.

Tests were fairly quick and dirty. Pretty sure I had Safari, Nambu (Twitter Client), and Mail running at the same time.

Thanks for the numbers man.
Vico.

LOVE them. LOVE them. LOVE them.

Could you substantiate this statement ? I'm a big fan of black shiny things too, but am having trouble seeing the weight / size / cost benefit of this one over a good quality FW800 card reader.

Especially when I can't wait to ditch my CF's and go SSD.

Would love to see this comparison if someone could accommodate, that would be cool:

FULL 16GB CF card offloaded using R3D DM
MacPro Dual Quad or 8 core system.
How long to offload to 2 eSata drives simultaneously?

1 - LexarFW800
vs
2 - RED STATION eSata

(forget showing RED STATION FW800 results, pretty sure no one cares)

Mark,

Congratulations. The build quality looks nice.

I thought that CF's were EOL'd with EPIC? Is this true?

David
