  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED STATION

Are there any plans for mounting hardware or any ways to clamp the drives? Perhaps a 19" rack face plate or rackable frame...

Do the units stack by virtue of their shape, or is there a more secure/positive lock involved?

Looking at the rear picture, the power connector looks like it's PCB mounted - any space or means of swapping it out for a lemo/locking connector? (This is coming from someone who swapped out banana jacks in his home surround sound setup with Neutrik Speakon connectors).

When do I have to pay the deposit for the RED Toaster by?

We should never pretend to know what's going on behind closed doors at RED. I think the response you got from Jarred is probably frustration based on people making lots of assumptions without any facts to back them up.

That goes for many companies, and even co-opt projects (open source etc).

It's incredibly frustrating to have folk, especially customers (who you can't offend), make assumptions to how your working. We had a customer criticise our staffing for being unable to handle a project we worked on. They didn't once criticise their own staff for failing to plan or budget, or to actually tell us they had a deadline. Even after they changed the specs countless times mid-project, we still outperformed the project plan we supplied to them in our original quote.

Moral of the story; you can't please some people. Even if you deliver a 5K camera. And a toaster.

Seriously, where the hell is my toaster?

Ahhhh...I see...personal attacks. Very nice. I guess I don't what goes on behind Red's closed doors. All I know is I paid for a Red Camera, Lenses, Rails, Batteries AND an EVF in full, was told everything was available for collection, flew to the USA to collect everything, only to find that the Charger Pack AND EVF was suddenly not available. Almost 5 months down the track, still not EVF. And sure...I could buy an ex-rental EVF on E-Bay for $2500....but would you?? I've seen the way people treat rental gear, and it's not nice!
So....I wait another 2 months or so to buy the Bomb EVF.
And can you honestly tell me that when shooting in extreme lighting situations (shooting into the sun or with a massive lighting rig flashing around you in a music video situation) that a Hoodman is really going to be better than having an eyepiece that completely seals out all light?
I appreciate that are many goodies coming out of Red, and I for one will be upgrading to the Epic when it becomes available.
But honestly....a viewfinder is a very important piece of kit...especially when going hand held...and to forced to wait for what will no doubt be 6 months, I think is more than frustrating and is not really a small thing which requires some smarmy remark, belittling a person's intelligence.
Jarrad....a more positive response would be ideal. Perhaps if explaination's were more forthcoming from Red instead of the simple response...."they are on back-order".
And sorry...I do not have the time to be spending hours searching for tit bits of information on Red User so I am completely up to date.
I thought that was the point of this forum...to help keep people informed....to share the information...to point users in a direction when they cannot find what they are looking for....to help.
It's responses like Jarrad's that make me feel as though it's pointless expressing my thoughts and concerns, expecting some answers through this site.

I can tell you that many have bought EVF's separate to their red purchase as their on backorder, if its important enough that you feel its a necessary part buy one there's plenty there to do so with. And then sell the spare when the time comes. Needs must and if your working commercially (Which you indicate you are) the few hundred dollars that you lose in buying and reselling will be more than covered compared to having to reshoot pickups.

well seems to me your original post makes a personal attack at red because you think they missmangaged their resources because YOUR order of the evf has not arrived as of yet. Express your thoughts and concerns here, Red has so far done very well in responce. just mind the manner in which you express your thoughts and concerns and it'll make this place a much more constructive forum.

I much rather enjoyed Jarred's humorous responce:rofl: ganna go nuke some toasts now:001_cool:

I think the better thing to do is call directly to Red and discuss this problem personally. Making an assumption of how they are working isn't really going to start the conversation off right in my opinion.

But seriously, Jarred, are we going to find out about the Toaster in mid may as well? :)

Dimensions

Dimensions

I've looked but haven't found dimensions for these. Dimensions anyone?

I have a couple of aks cases that aren't being used.

Also making the assumption that the EVF out of someones rental kit is gonna be in rough shape might be a little out of line. Ask for photos if they are not provided... I know i for one baby my camera... when it goes out for rental i make sure it comes back in as good as it went out... So much so that i spotted scratches on the RED brushed metal logo on the CF module reader. Truthfully the EVF is built VERY solidly. If it is so bad that you cant see then get a used one. And you posed the question "would you?" umm... yes.

Thanks Brook.

Now that I bashed you Shayne you probably do deserve an explanation :)

There are not going to be any of the old EVF's made. simple as that. The new Bomb EVF has replaced the old EVF and will be offered to those that have the old EVF on back-order first. We ran out of stock of the original EVF a bit early and there is nothing we can do about it.

We are still about 4 weeks away from getting the new EVF into people's hands though.. so there is still going to still be some waiting. There is going to still be some bitching. There is still going to be some bashing.

But thats ok.. We are all friends here. We are all in this together. So feel free to take it out on us... I promise you wont hurt our feelings.

Just dont get upset if we swing right back at you :)

Okay, I misunderstood your EVF situation. I did not realize you had already ordered one. I would consider getting one used as others have suggested, if possible. I suspect some people are selling perfectly good EVFs in anticipation of the new one, so you might be able to snag one and avoid any further delays with backorders.

I didn't mean that the LCD hood would entirely solve your dilemma with tough viewing environments, just meant that it's one way to deal with the LCD in those situations, or you could go the route of one of the LCD>viewfinder converters like this. http://www.optitek.org/viewfinder_red_one.php

REDuser is a great resource. It's not always the best solution to problems. Sometimes a direct call to RED will be the best way to resolve an issue. I have found their support to be very helpful and responsive. If an item is on back order, perhaps there isn't much more info they can give you. Sometimes these things have to do with delays well outside of RED's control. But best to check in with them, see if any new information has become available, etc.

If I needed a critical piece of gear in my kit, I would look at all options. Don't let "used" deter you. If it means getting the shots now as opposed to an unpredictable timetable, opt for now. Just my opinion of course.

Hi Guys...like I said...I paid for kit....was told it was all there ready to be collected, I flew from Australia to the USA to collect it, and parts of the order were missing. I was actually in the Red offices asking why I could not get the EVF as I was told was there!
I was told...they are all sold out, and are on back-order. I don't think I could have got any closer to the source to tell them of the problem that Red just created for me...."erm...you told me everything was here to pick up...here I am...where are the parts you said were here.."
"Sorry..."
"But I've come all the way from Australia to get this kit....I'm actually flying directly out of here to a film shoot in Sydney...I need the gear!! Look...you have two in the cabinet, and another two on demo cameras in the room. Can't I have one of those??"
"No. You cannot, I am told. Sorry about that. Sorry about the mix-up."

Clearly...I am the odd one out here it would seem.

And sure...it would be great if I was able to get the new Bomb EFV at the old price as has been mentioned here.... but I've been told by Red that I have to wait until the Bomb goes up on the website, then use the money I have in credit with Red to order it from the website.

Huh??

No one has told me I can have the new EVF at the old price, and that it is on back-order for me so my held in trust money will secure it for me.

I just wish I could say to my customers...Sure...I have your payment in full....come and get your video.....oops..sorry...I'm sold out....can you wait for an indefinite amount of time to get another one?

Anyway....I've accepted it all. Not much I can do except suffer in my jocks.
I've actually had to use some of that money to get the LCD screen repaired, but there is still money there in trust....waiting for the EVF.
(The repair was very quick...thanks Red repair department)

I just love my Red so much, it hurts me when the company lets me down.
And I do not trust second hand gear. Sorry. Each to their own I guess.

SHayne, dont you think it just MIGHT be your off-handed remarks that warranted some attacks?...especially when you make completely unfounded and unresearched (READ: LAZY) comments... like "all used EVF's are ex rentals" give us a break man.. right now on reduser classified, there are two to three MINT EVF's for sale. Damn right I would buy one.

Steve Sherrick is as nice as they come and an ambassador of sorts on here... and I'm a loyalist who respects Red's motto of "We refuse to provide service to anyone with a bad attitude". I enjoy this community, but comments like yours piss those of us who MAKE TIME to get up to date
on the status of all things RED. We are ALL busy mate.

This forum is an excellent resource for help, support discussion... and "necessary to frequent" is what most of us realize as RED owners. so why dont you re-read your posts and then tell me Jarred and others were out of line...

Cant believe you are now demanding a more positive response?

Frustration is one thing, but the "EVF rant" is so 2009 man. You have a BOMB coming (priority mind you) and if you really don't want to wait... then scroll down to the for sale section. Good folks are selling some for less than you paid!

Shanyne, Perhaps renting an EVF would be in your best interest? And maybe, JUST MAYBE, if you had gone about this mild manneredly, RED migtht reimburse you the rental fees... ?

Just sayin'.

Bump, back to topic now...

Just a little clarification here. RED directly informed Shayne before he left for the United states the items that were and were not going to be available, before he came, multiple times. We have a long chain of emails to prove it.

It is one thing to for us to screw up and fall down ( which we do sometimes ) but when we are being dragged through the mud for something that is a downright lie, Im not going to stand for it. Our bombsquad reps work way too hard to be beat up for something that they didn't do.

Our motto " We reserve the right to refuse service with anyone with a bad attitude " just had another name added to it's list. and so did the REDUSER ban list.

Good call.

I've been recently needing assistance from several bomb squad members, including the great Haley, and it's been top notch all the way. Quick, responsive, thorough. Everything taken care of.

Good work, Red!
