  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED STATION

The Computer Connection?

The Computer Connection?

correct... and the power link cables come with the devices, they are not proprietary but normal Sata Power cables

What I'm missing is how the reader(s) connect to a computer (assuming I want eSATA and want to connect more than one device).

In the illustration one reader is daisy-chained to another via the single eSATA port.... but now the only computer connection would seem to be FW800 or USB. I think this may have been what was meant by the 'six missing eSATA ports in the base station' in an earlier post.

What am I missing here? I'd really love a product information sheet rather than having to read through 20+ pages of comments and supposition.

Because I don't believe you can daisychain eSata devices like you can FireWire. So you need to hook up each eSata device to it's own connection on the computer.

Hey Brandon... nice to see you posting. Say "hey" to your Pop for me.

Jim

Is there some family connection here, or just a mutual Jannard surname high five!

Sorry if this has been asked already. Can the CF reader read third party cards? I'm assuming so but just double checking. I ordered a 7D to hold my wait over until Scarlet and need a CF reader.

We'll find out shortly :) I ordered one and I am using a 7D at the moment with a pair of Kingston 32MB cards (also waiting for Scarlet).

any news on the 64 GIG cards??? I am waiting for those... and with the RED STATION it will be sweet

absolutely...

Jarred,
Do you know how long it will take for that last FCC regulation? I ordered as well, can't wait to check out my new CF!!!

P.S. My apologies for being "that guy" and asking how long... I know you guys are busy and we appreciate all the hard work your putting in! :emote_hippie:

Any idea when red station will be shipping?

Bump. I need to read more about this.

I assume you mean the RED BASE STATION. As Jarred said earlier: "Base Module provides power to the entire stack so you dont need to have power cords going to each module for E-SATA operation."

Bump. I need to read more about this.
I've had a need for a similar product in the past and talked to an electrical engineer friend who said I mostly needed to just worry about how consistent the voltage was and whether or not it had sufficient amperage.

I just used something from a local computer store like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Apricorn-Driv...ER-SUPPLY-ADAPTER/dp/B0013OJOE0/ref=pd_cp_e_1

In this case you would need a Molex->Sata adapter.

It doesn't list the amps on the power supply but it can handle a 3.5" drive which means it's at least 1.5a I imagine.

I'm not sure though I would want sata power going straight into a device. It's not really designed to be abused like a standard 5v DC plug.

Would you consider changing out that barrel plug for power to something a bit more robust? Those non locking connecters fall out all the time, the Redbyte downconverter uses a similar connection. A two pin Lemo or similar would be more appropriate for something as important as the power input?
