  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED STATION

Base Module provides power to the entire stack so you dont need to have power cords going to each module for E-SATA operation.

2.5" RED MAG accepts bare 2.5" SSD and Spinning hard drives for offloading.

You can mix and match up to 3 modules per base station.

Nice modular design and very attractive price. I am a little confused that the reader supports 2.5" SSDs - I thought the SSD module and reader would support 1.8" SSDs only as stated in the EPIC/Scarlet module prices?

Each Module can be used independently or linked together as a system, using E-SATA, FIREWIRE 800/400 or USB2.0.

It looks great and all but why USB 2.0??????

I can't believe nobody mentioned this in this thread so far!

I have been using USB 3.0 since December and honestly it's the only connector i want to use! It's incredibly fast!

Looks great! Pricing is very attractive too...

If I go with the Fixed Scarlet, I might pick up one of the CF Modules at the same time - would be great to finally be able to use eSATA with CF.

From my understanding of Jarred's first couple of posts it seems that, yes, if you do not use the base station to distribute power, each individual module will need it's own power supply.

So you either use the power adapters that come with the module, or you spend $250 on a base station? To save using a second power lead?

The 2.5" are mainly intended, I think, for SSD's which I'm sure RED is ensuring are going to much faster and better than any 3.5" platter; though not cheaper or bigger :)

Jarred says the 2.5" is for offloading - I assume he means from CF card to 2.5" drive. Using SSDs for backups seems a bit expensive! He says they're for bare drives, so they won't work with camera media.

That would be weird, but I guess it would be nice for quickly create a few copies..? Could it be that the 1.8" drives will be housed in a 2.5" tough-as-nails enclosure?

I hope the SSD media is set or at least well on it's R&D way by NAB so we can hear a bit more about it.

I am very interested in SSDs and 64GB cards... From my POV all else seized to exist the second these puppies are out.

Very nice, but why on earth did you choose a power connector without a locking mechanism?

Do Want.

When can we order? am I going to have to sit by my computer at 11:59 on april 13th hitting refresh every 2 seconds?

I'm really looking forward to this and I'm ready to order.

But you know what would have been really cool... Is if the modules actually docked together via a connection similar to what's on the back of the new DSMC brains to completely eliminate the need for interconnecting cables altogether. Have dual FW800 ports, USB2 ports and a 4-channel SAS port (for up to 4 eSATA connections) on the base. Of course, keep the separate ports on each module so they can be used independently of the STATION stack. Funny, I thought that was how it was going to work when the RED STATION was first announced. Oh, well... Probably a big cost penalty to build it that way, maybe?

The power cable management on the back of the RED STATION is going to work out fine, but now we're going to have eSATA cables running to each module to deal with too. ...And FW800 in some cases.

Would also have liked a RED Drive / RED-RAM port where we could connect the DRIVE or RAM via the single LEMO cable.

I don't really get all the "nice price" comments. $250 for a card reader is very expensive and $250 for a power supply is extremely expensive.

On the other hand, equipment that doesn't fail is priceless so any price goes if Red will guarantee indestructibility.

Yep what about USB 3.0?
