  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED STATION

Officially out of Backorder as of Today... New orders shipped on demand. Woohoo!

Great news Jarred - nice!!! So does that include base station, cf module and the 2.5" redmag modules?

BASE STATION and CF RED STATION MODULE are shipping at-once. 1.8" and 2.5" have not been begun shipping yet.

Yep. Received our CF reader yesterday. First CF reader I've seen that looks like it's made for actual use, not just to be manufactured as cheaply as possible. Nice.

Ok, help me to understand this please. I'm guessing that the 2.5 in module is simply for backing up camera media to 2.5 in drives (ssd and hd) while the 1.8 in module is for a forthcoming camera mounted media drive.... yes?

Thanks,
CB

1.8" and 2.5" Red Stations just came in... will be up in the store on Monday.

How soon before we have something to put in them? Will they have the custom connector that the SSD modules do?

Sounds good Jarred. So if I order monday will you guys be able to ship all at the same time. Shipping to me is expensive, that's why I've been waiting for these to order so I only have to pay shipping once.

The more I read the more I believe Lightpeak is gonna be the new standard. It may be something Red should seriously look at if you haven't already done so. I wouldn't be surprised if we see an announcement by the end of the year that Apple and Intel have signed an exclusive deal. The question is whether Intel will push both standards Lightpeak and USB 3 (for mac products) or just opt for LightPeak
Apple is pushing Intel with their talks with AMD and LightPeak may be the way to keep Apple happy and the relationship sweet.

You called it. Nice.

the lightpeak / lightpipe solution seems to be a good one but it doesn't seem to have gained much traction anywhere yet... Lightpipe actually has a bit of use in audio but Lightpeak doesnt have anything out yet that I know of.

As for modularity, the data modules all share the same metal case ( minus the 3.5" chassis of course ) which is a good chunk of the cost.. when forward technology comes available, you just swap out the boards inside with a new backplate, thats the way we designed it, much like the side CF panel on the red one.

Jarred:

So is it safe to presume we will soon see lightpeak integrated as an I/O protocol onboard the camera, RED station and/or other RED data management solutions? With Apple releasing it, and the throughput attainable, how could you not? RED seems to only run with the biggest, baddest and most robust solutions, and lightpeak appears to offer just that as a data pipeline.
