  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED STATION 1.8" and 2.5"

Nothing here yet, I had my order in since they went on sale in the RED Store...I guess we're still waiting to fill backorders...haven't heard anything...

Has anyone with a backorder on a RED Drive seen a SSD drive?

Waiting patiently....if anyone knows anything please let us know something...Thanks...

We (hopefully) should be out of backorder on REDMAGs in the next month or so. This includes all open RED-DRIVE and RED-RAM orders plus new customer orders for REDMAG placed to date.

Thanks for the reply

I had a Red-Ram on order since early spring 2010, and though I should be close to the front, they don't know when I can expect a module or SSD.

Just trying to figure out when it might get here...looks like it might take a bit if your backorder isn't filled as of yet.

Best,
Frazier

Install Red SSD Module

Install Red SSD Module

Am I correct in assuming this is installed at the factory, or is this something they just send and you install it yourself?

Hi, I've just got the RED CF module and it appears to work with just the Mini USB without any other added power? (If I want to off-load in the field).

Is this okay practice? Or do you sanction another USB port from the laptop for additional bus power? Or have you got to use the power supply?

It isn't really clear in the support text.

thx.

Hi Tyrone,

Do you mean this support text (scroll down)?

https://www.red.com/support

For Firewire, RED suggest that standalone use is ok but recommend use of a power adapter for "optimal" performance.

"2.5.2.2 FIREWIRE
When connecting RED STATION module(s) to the computer using the FireWire Cable in stand-alone configuration, it is not necessary to connect the 5V DC 2A Power Adapter as power is provided through the FireWire Cable, however it is recommended for optimal performance. If RED STATION module(s) are used in conjunction with RED STATION Base, RED STATION module(s) are powered through RED STATION Base."

For USB standalone, RED use the word "must".

"2.5.2.3 USB
When connecting RED STATION module(s) to the computer using the USB + 5V DC Power Cable in stand-alone configuration, the integrated 5V DC power connector must be plugged into the RED STATION module(s) 5V DC IN connector and to a power source. If RED STATION module(s) are used in conjunction with RED STATION Base, the integrated 5V DC connector does not need to be plugged into RED STATION module(s), as it is powered through RED STATION Base."

I have the Base and CF Station modules but haven't used them away from a desk yet :).

Thanks.

It rules out using it for mobile no-power work. And given the power adapter is a US plug form with no adapter to UK - And the adaptes are an annoyance.

That said I've tried it 10 times and it appears to work - I wonder if you use +5v USb power lead so you've effectively got two USB plugged in? I have had drives that do this before!

Yes, USB only does seem to work. Having to use a US power lead with an adaptor over here is a bit of a pain, but I had a quick look online and suitable leads can be had for a few quid so when I get around to it I'll buy a couple.

Yup, SIDE SSD 1.8" MODULE for RED ONE and 128GB SSD 1.8" cards are both live: http://www.red.com/store/media

Two reminders:
1. People that have unfulfilled RED-DRIVE and RED-RAM orders will get shipping priority on the REDMAGs.
2. While we are in a "limited availability" situation with the modules and cards, we will only deliver 5x SSD cards per customer. Once we have healthy stock, it will be business-as-usual.

hey Red Team
when are you expecting "business-as-usual" for the R1 SSD side module???

is there a back log on the 2.5" red station module?

I ordered mine last week, showed up in three days. So there wasn't one then...

Mike

Okay sick! Did you happen to order a 1.8" module? I was wondering if that had one as well? I thought I had read somewhere that there was.

Yes, 1.8", 2.5", and RED Station base all showed up same day.
