  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED STATION 1.8" and 2.5"

Jeff likes this

So, how limited is this first production? First-come, first-served, I'm assuming or going off customer #?

Are all the SSD modules going to be machined? Or are those just the prototypes and initially produced ones until the mass-produced ones start flowing?

all machined right now till cast come in... but same price.

This is better...

And shows what Jarred was talking about the stacking.

That makes the R1 look like it was supposed to from the beginning. Sleek and one less wart hanging off the beast. A HUGE improvement.

This question was probably answered 2 or three light years ago on this forum... Is there a recording advantage for the SSD media over the Red Drives when used on the R-1?

No dropped frames from vibration, lightning fast offload speeds.

Thanks Zac. I had it in my mind it would help with 4.5K and higher framerates.

Sweet looking storage, very stylish and such a great size 128GB. Now everyone, those who bitch about price! heres a thought! only in 2006 when the first HVX200 came out, l had one of the first in the UK the storage for 2 x 8GB was £1800 roughly $ 2400 and then needed a down loadable storage device that was £ 1200 $ 1600.

Fab job RED can't wait to have these on my Scarlet x 8 & Epic S

Love your products just can't wait to be able to purchase some.

Glad someone asked the case question for these things. Now all we need is a quick load gunslinger SSD belt a bit like the bullet belts they have in Westerns.

Seriously though, I like individual cases for on set/location media handling and management: something to keep the standby mag dry & dust free whilst it is waiting to go on or in the process of handover to the DIT.

I agree, media card cases are a definite must, Sony and Pani both give cases with their media cards, stops them from being damaged and easier to find in the camera bag. Not a nice to have but an essential.

I'm sure this has been answered, but will the SSD module for the R1 work on the Epic? Just curious, since we will trading in the R1 for Stage 3 and want to understand if the R1 SSD will be usable on Epic/Scarlet ...

If not, can the Epic SSD module be purchased and used on the R1?

Thanks!

Jarred,

I take back my earlier, mean spirited comments about "stupid shit RED does."

My apologies.

No it will not ;) Different design.

I'm curious about this too. For example the 4K being limited to 25fps at RC42, I wonder if that's actually the limit of the camera's processing hardware or if there was a media bottleneck.

camera limitation.. not media restriction.
