  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED STATION 1.8" and 2.5"

You can't touch the SSD readers or the station without a not included wrist strap?

It would be cool if there was a base module with backup battery power incase you lose power during a transfer.

Simplification:

RED 1.8" SSD magazines use a proprietary interface and are in a protective housing over the SSD media.

RED Station 1.8" modules are the only way to attach the 1.8" camera media to a computer or other device via eSATA, Firewire or USB.

Just to be clear, all that you really need is a computer and the RED station 1.8" module to offload SSD footage?

One way around that would be to utilize the rocket, but now you are looking at a potentially larger system. The system I'm thinking about would be really for those types of jobs where you are willing to trade off on some things for the sake of portability and not being tethered. The 7" screen would give you the ability to make sure there are no artifacts as a result of the copy, to ensure the 1s and 0s make an image properly. It wouldn't be used for color decisions or any other critical applications.

I suppose there could be a big brother system that is the Do-It-All version. For now, I'm thinking about something that could do for RED what NEXTO is doing for other formats.

My hope is that the ASICs developed for epic can also be used to do rocket style accelerated debayering in a smaller/cheaper package. It seems like the ASICs must be able to do heavy duty debayerng given the built in capabilities of the Epic.

Is this possible/likely? and would it provide a substantial advantage over what they are already doing in the rocket? Am I mistaken in my thought that the big cost with an ASIC is the development and initial setup, but in volume the chips themselves get pretty cheap?

I don't recall seeing this answered: How will the R1 MX recognize the Side SSD Module and more importantly the Media once we swap out the CF Module? Will there be a new firmware beta?

So... since old Red Drive back order purchasers are going to get priority on the SSD Modules I think it would of been a good idea to hold the Mags back to offer them as kit. Otherwise, if the Mag is already going to back order you could end up with users who can now shoot to the coolest media with no ability to offload footage. I'd feel wrong having a mag that sat useless for weeks if there were module owners in that boat.

Yup, firmware will take care of RED ONE / RED MAG SSD compatibility.

Any word on whether the REDstation will ever reformat SSD's, or is it planned for that to always be done in camera modules?

Also, anyone know if the dual CF module is getting replaced with dual SSD so you technically never have to stop recording?

If so, I'd be wondering if a dual SSD is in a RAID configuration that allows even higher fps (or are the Brain's already the bottleneck compared to SSD)?

If a RAID configured dual SSD back-stacking camera module is in the works, will we need a special dual REDstation to offload since the media would be scattered on two SSD's?

Just trying to get some perspective on the future of the REDstation suite so I can time my purchases to work best with my future workflow.

no format on standalone red stations.. need to do that on camera for proper clip names etc. for now.

future raid/different cards etc. are a long ways out... these SSD's hold their own for quite awhile.

Thanks Jarred! You answered so fast I didn't even get to see my own name on the homepage as a top post; speaks well for RED's bedside manner. Somebody get this guy some harder questions. Best-

At least for the moment no, the maximum REDCODE value available from RED ONE - with either M or MX sensor - remains as REDCODE 42.

The main benefits of SSD for a RED ONE user are much longer record times, significantly lower cost per GB, and extremely fast data offload.

Thanks Stuart!

I want one, will be lighter than Red Mag. :)

Let´s see those SSD´s + SSD R1 modules in the store so I can have a receipt to look at.

Any word on if R3D Data Manager will read and transfer the 1.8? Will reformatting be available through R3D DM like with CF and Red Drives?

Don't know why R3DDM would not support the SSD's... However, you should only format them on the camera, as Jarred indicated above. Same with the CF and RED Drives. Even though R3DDM supports formatting your media, don't do it.

Hi,
How can I buy this items?
I can not be found anywhere in the Red-Store!!
.....this is some secret inner product?
64GB SSD $950.
128GB SSD $1800
256GB SSD $3200

R1 SSD Camera Module $1500
EPIC SSD Camera Module $2500

the SSD's and R1 SSD module will be in the store next week.

And REAL NAME! Get it fixed.

The REDmag look awesome... but 2 years ago we bougth REDdrive 900$ for 640gb If we need REDmag we have to pay 1800$ for 128gb
We also need alway 2 media for shooting 3600$ that tooooooo much.

Will Red produce smaller SSD drives to bring the price down in the future? 64GB is alot and thats awesome, but something smaller and more affordable would be nice for the Scarlett without having to use CF cards at all...

What about a 16 or 32GB SSD?
