Hello,
I was wondering why I don't see much RED in cinematography events as a sponsor. Arri is overall the place. What is RED's policy regarding sponsoring?
RED PR is kind of dissapearing, even here on REDUSER...

Thanks for any inputs.

There was this press release with Nikon.
Commitment to Education
Nikon would like to encourage interested and accredited four-year universities with film schools to open a conversation to explore possible collaborations.

As I can see they target schools.
By targetting newcomers, I wonder if they think the professional market isn't their new market base?

You never know but so far it does seem like they want to hit the major markets for cinema including high end. That's an area most manufacturers could not crack and with RED they're already there.

I think targeting a school like USC is a step towards getting the next wave of cinema professionals while they're young.

I do think, however they are going to target the $5k-$10k "creator" space more than RED did in the past.
Will see.

BRITIM/MEDIA

Over the past couple of years, Nikon has shifted, rather expanded, its marketing significantly to emphasize video.

They now prioritize younger 'Creators' particularly. They still have their Ambassador program but have added Creators to this, who appear to be mostly younger, and are more into highlighting fashion, life style, travel genres etc. Nikon recognizes the importance of Social media as a primary arena, as much as the company's marketing focused for decades on pro sports, NatGeo photojournalists and wildlife.

Nikon sees Hybrid cameras as one central arena of future business. The 3rd generation Z MILCs exemplify this strategy. The emphasis on social media influencers aka Creators is obvious in the pro level features packed into the highly affordable DX Z50 II, that's followed closely on the FX Z6 III.

In this interview, Kawabata San is fairly candid in describing Nikon's shifting emphasis, expanding into the markets they identify for their more affordable MILCs

I've been out of town filming until recently, but RED/Nikon sponsored numerous events here in LA and a bit abroad. Actually a fairly big shift in that aspect from what I can see.

I guess things were a bit murkier back in November of 2024 when this thread was started but in the months since then
Nikon & RED have been pretty aggressive with sponsorships.

Considering chambeshi's link above concerning an alleged push into the education market I think there is a plan to greatly scale up
RED and Nikon's presence in markets they historically had a smaller presence in.

RED also had a decent Touch and Try even at Filmtools today in LA. I stopped by real quick. But nice to see both an educational and marketing effort. Curious to see what else they'll do.
