  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sinds I upgraded from the Raven to the SW I think it would take a while. But maybe we are lucky and the list splits in half because of the Epic-W.

When all the people who changed to the Epic-W start getting allocated and sent out. They might then start doing day 1 orders for Scarlet-W only time will tell
 
Very handy, thanks! I'm about to join the RED party.

Is it still worth investing in the Scarlet-W? Or should the Epic-W be a better investement over the time? That's what's I'm asking myself now the last 2 days.

I guess it is entirely dependant on what you are/will be shooting. Epic-w does 8k will you need 8k, do you have the budget to buy all the extra hard drives to store the 8k video. If you don't need 8k then the epic will do 7k and 6k but there is crop factors in image., it will also do 4K pro res files. The Scarlet-W does 5k which needs a lot less storage space it also does pro res in 2k, it also does 4.5k at 120fps. The crop factor on the scarlet-w will be less than the epic-w unless your shooting in 8k. Then you have to think about price scarlet-w is 10k usd plus 4-5k accs. The Epic-W is 29k plus 4-5k accs. Unless you already have a deposit in for an SW before oct 11 and you can upgrade to the epic-w for another 10k on top of the SW 10k plus your 4-5k in accs. It's a choice you have to make for what your needs are. For me I will stay with SW
 
I could have sworn I saw some posted on here, but can't seem to track them down right now - has anyone posted SW R3Ds (outside of the red.com ones)?

Please note that I made this to compare 16:9 HD. I've gotten a million comments on the Facebook group telling me that my comparisons are wrong, however people keep forgetting that the listed specs for the cameras are in 2.41. There's a big different in frame rates when you go from 2.41 to more common FF/WS/HD.
 
Sticking with my Scarlet, it's well used and continues to impress me. If epic-w was 6k s35 with helium I would have been down but I have no room for 8K in my current set up.

Shot a feature on the SW this summer and am excited to show off some stuff when I can.
 
It is interesting that the delivery date for Scarlet-W still says "early 2017"on the RED site. That, even after apparently hundreds of Epic-Ws have been shipped to Scarlet-W placeholders, thus removing them from the queue. I wonder if this just hasn't been updated or there were that many people waiting. Kind of mind-boggling.

There has been some Scarlet-W allocations last night. For people who just ordered a scarlet-w. I haven't been allocated though yet and i did my order on day 1
 
Does any one have any tips or tricks to keeping your camera dry when filming in the snow or rain? I will be filming on a glide cam so I can't really hold an umbrella (if that was someones idea) and it will be just me on the shoot, so there won't be somebody else to hold and umbrella.

You could always put a plastic bag around the camera cut holes for the lens and lcd
 
Okay, there has been some development in scarlet-w allocations, a few people have been allocated over the weekend. One of the timestamps of the allocations that went out was for Arthur Moody who ordered a Scarlet-w package on the 02/01/16 non raven switcher. He was allocated at the weekend. I am not really sure why people are getting allocated all over the place? I haven't heard anything at all from red in regards to allocation and I am a day 1 scarlet-w order?? attached is the email Arthur received...

I completely agree! For some reason the Scarlet-W allocations have gone haywire...It seems like the entirety of December has been missed and Jan-Feb orders are getting fulfilled.

Not too sure what exactly is going on

Thanks for the update and your continued communication on this thread. Seeing cameras being allocated brings me hope :-) But agree the scatteredness of the allocation is confusing to say the very least. I have a 12/30/15 timestamp and my patience is starting to wear thin.

I second this concern..... There was even a guy on the FB group who ordered in SEPTEMBER (last month) and got an allocation email. How does that work?

I haven't vented much since december 2015, but i am getting a bit annoyed at the moment...

I don't get upset when people are allocated thats not the issue, its the fact that I'm still waiting on a day 1 order almost 1 year. I paid up in full swell in august to get the money out the way.
